Trump Privately Pressuring GOP Senators To ‘Kill’ Border Deal To Deny Biden A Win

The former president is telling Republicans he "doesn't want Biden to have a victory" in 2024, said a source familiar with the bipartisan negotiations.

Donald Trump on Wednesday privately pressured Senate Republicans to “kill” a bipartisan deal to secure the U.S. border because he doesn’t want President Joe Biden to chalk up a win ahead of the 2024 presidential election, according to a source familiar with the tenuous negotiations on the package.

Trump directly reached out to several GOP senators on Wednesday to tell them to reject any deal, said this source, who requested anonymity to speak freely. The GOP presidential frontrunner also personally reached out to some Senate Republicans over the weekend, the source told HuffPost.

“Trump wants them to kill it because he doesn’t want Biden to have a victory,” said the source. “He told them he will fix the border when he is president… He said he only wants the perfect deal.”

No surprise there. Senate Republicans want another delay in a Democrat win to fuck over America. Remember how Iran delayed releasing hostages so Reagan could use it against Carter?

That wasn't even the first time. Nixon tried to sabotage Vietnamese peace talks in 1968 to hurt LBJ. It worked then too, the only thing that matters when you want power is winning.

The last halfway decent repub was Eisenhower.

And Ike was apolitical. He joined the Republicans because he felt the Democrats were too strong and he wanted levity between the two.

For fun look up his presidential platform to see how...progressive... Republicans used to be and how far theyve fallen.

Shit you don't even have to go that far back, Reagan, their neo-liberal god, would be lampooned in today's GOP. He passed gun-control and gave amnesty to those here illegally - both of which we should do again. He also ignored a pandemic resulting in millions of unnecessary deaths, just like our last Republican president, you know the one who stole Reagans motto, Make America Great Again. Yea Reagan did that first, that was his schtick and they both fucking failed HARD at that.

AKA Kissinger's job interview.

Someone should check on Kissinger and make sure they're still dead. Don't want to risk that Kissinger is a lich. While you are at, take a shit on Kissinger grave for us.

Well, not just America. Remember that part of the border deal crap involves Republicans agreeing to fund military aid to Ukraine. Ukraine is defending themselves from Russia. Putin runs Russia. Trump really likes Putin, far more than any normal person would.

Trump is a fucking traitor.

Also, there's a non-zero chance we'll get dragged into a war with Russia if Putin attacks a NATO country after Ukraine. Senators know that if we don't fund Ukraine now, it will be much worse for everyone later, and potentially having Trump at the helm during that time would be an unmitigated disaster.

Honestly if Trump gets back into office I'm joining the legion.

I just can't really see Russia invading a NATO country. I mean, they would be either completely destroyed relatively quickly, or we're talking WW3 and a couple thousand years of rebuilding.

Then again, a dying man has nothing to lose. Who knows if the rumors of him having cancer are true, but he's certainly no spring chicken, at any rate.

I know Repubs don't actually want a functioning government, but JFC, when half the govt actively, publicly and LOUDLY works against it, it's no surprise it's so fucked up.

What I think we should all be very concerned about is if they erode institutions, regulations, and the rule of law then they really can go ape (literally) enforcing their insecurities. Forcing women to stay in abusive or unwanted marriages, abortion and birth control restrictions, removing reading material, protecting "different" people from violence? It all goes out the window if they get their way.

I think this is a half truth given events in Texas. They don't want a functional government unless they control it and it represents their interests. They being the few party elites.

But that's the thing - they already hold an incredible amount of power and influence to control how things are run to protect their interests. Abbot is throwing a fit because the federal government stopped him murdering people he doesn't like. It's not enough to have power to secure their own position, they also want the power to reduce the position of people they see as inferior

Nixon and Reagan both sabotaged deals to get elected. Now we're seeing it play out as an even stupider farce.

I know about Reagan's "October Surprise" deal, but I'm unfamiliar with Nixon's. Would you please tell me what to look into?

He undermined a vietnam war ceasefire negotiation if I recall.

Yeah, and that was why the Watergate break-in happened. He was worried that the opposition knew about it

Straight out of the Nixon playbook.

In all but the particulars this is the Nixon/Humphrey election.

Swap out Vietnam for border

Swap out the eve of the election for a year before the election

Swap out an evil pseudo-intellectual for an evil fucking idiot

I fucking hate Trump so much dude

Same. I can't even watch home alone anymore. Literally hate that movie now, he ruined it.

GOP congressmen were literally complaining about not having any accomplishments to show during this term, and their strategy is to keep doing nothing? Awesome plan dudes, keep it up.

Next, he’ll try running guns for hostages to defeat the Democrats.

So 5-10 years ago, this would be political suicide and the rhetoric was never this violent and polarized.

I worry where we will be in the next 5-10 years if this trend continues.

We're going to be fighting Fascism at least until Trump is too old or senile to keep going. He has a death grip on the party, but at least nobody else thus far can take up his mantle.

The bitch of fascism is always in heat. When he croaks it his supporters won't suddenly turn into rational people, another piece of shit will pick up the torch.

They'll certainly try, but the movement won't be the same. They want Trump, not somebody else.

Holy shit what a child. This is literally what children do.

Reach a compromise solution that helps the situation and the public at large. 😤

Say fuck it all, it's all about me and my run for President. 😉

Here I was all ready to pull up my old man pants and go "Like Reagan?" with links to the October Surprise bullshit and y'all beat me to it.

Y'all make me proud today!

(ties onion to belt)

So if Texas is really being invaded, this is treason? Your move, Abbot.

Then Democrats will get to say they made huge concessions on parole and asylum during these talks, and Trump tanked it. That’s a much better space politically than they were in just before these Senate talks began. But, it doesn't matter since the voters will be set early and won't remember that Trump owns the problem.

You're right, they won't remember. People have already forgotten how much Republicans refuse every single thing Biden has tried to do and act like Biden didn't even try at all. These people also ignore what he didn't accomplish and down vote me when I bring it up.

Total aside, but Trump is looking thin and more stressed than usual in this pic. Most presidents start to grey in the hair and age faster during their terms, but I always felt Trump looked the same (probably cuz he was unfazed by the stresses of being president cuz he simply didn't give a shit), but here...it lools like he's finally starting to show the pressure on his face. Good.
