What is your weirdest comfort habit?

Could be chewing on stones or plucking your eyelashes out, I want to know!

for context: my stress-coping habit is shitposting Star Trek memes.

This is Counsellor Lt. Cmdr. Dianna Troi. Her comfort habit is chocolate sundaes. sadly, the ship’s replicators won’t give her real chocolate because it’s not good for her. this makes Counsellor Troi sad. :(

ummm...stroking my bird. Thats not a euphemism, so dont ask any followup questions.

But I want to know what type of bird. My chickens don't let me pet them.

I'm not an expert but I believe common wisdom says you're supposed to choke them.

My 2 macaws mostly, but my conure is starting to like the cuddles

It's a healthy habit, nothing to worry.

I'll lay in the tub after it's drained from taking a bath. Using the suction between my back, the tub, and the help the water gives me, I'll make fart noises from flexing my lower back. Real fancy I know.

Cruising in my car at night with the aindows down, even if i have nowhere to got

That's my favorite. Windows down on a cold day with the heater on, just randomly driving about, especially with no where to got.

I like just driving around until I get lost and then using Google maps until I know where I am. Slowly increasing how much of the city I have memorized. It's a wonderful thing to just drive if you have no where to got.

Used to do this with my friend when I lived in a bigger city. It's relaxing to see new parts of the city while driving, especially if you have no where to got.

I used to do this a lot too. It almost perfectly replicates a nice summer day/night provided it's clear out.

Bursting randomly into monologue when in private, wasting my 8+ years of trombone training on lip buzz squeaky noises around my family, silently descending into a panic attack in public

At least you can say you earned your username.

  1. Listening to AM 740 out of Toronto. I'm in the US but it comes over here. My grandma listened to it and I find it calming when I'm stressed because my grandma was the only person who truly loved me unconditionally and without question.

  2. Eat bits of granola cereal one at a time and chew them slowly. I don't even really like it. It's just such a simple food and I can kind of meditate on how simple it is.

  3. This isn't odd but a hot bath. Truly a portal to another world for me.

  4. Listen to Dreamscape on YouTube and imagine dystopian fantasy/sci-fi worlds I could live in. Maybe I'm stranded on an alien planet, maybe I'm in a dark forest and creatures are hunting me, or maybe I'm driving through a foggy, wooded hillside and I see something weird I need to investigate. Whatever the scenario, it gives me an escape from emotions I don't want to feel and allows me to create situations where I can feel whatever emotion I do need to feel.

Playing with sticky items (tape, stickers) rolling them in my fingers, sticking them to my hands and peeling them.

Additionally, touching things to my lips.

Discordant sensory input is often known to relieve anxiety and stress. The same concept is why things like fidget spinners and other fidget devices seem to work and calm those with overloaded sensory input. It’s the fact that you are in control of the input - especially the frequency and intensity - that relieves your anxiety.

It’s all about control.

The fact that sticky things appeal to you, in particular, is more about your particular tastes. Just as much as why you might like a particular color or flavor over another.

Not that odd, but I always bring some of my protobeans with me when I get breakfast so they can listen to music while I eat. They like to perch on the speaker. Today's protobeans are (from top to bottom): Rivet, Rose, Olivia, and Herman the Sixth Dimensional Planet Smasher.

They also get their snoots booped.

Edit: I didn't think it was that odd, but apparently it is. Yay!

It's harmless and I love it, but it's definitely odd my friend!

When I'm really stressed out, I'll put on repetitive beep boop music and draw floor plans on graph paper.

This made me think of that music from the episode of spongebob squarepants where he thinks mr krabs is a robot

Sucking on my tongue. Apparently it's genetic or passed down, but when I'm very content I will let my tongue go slack and then suck on it to create a light vacuum, causing it to fill my mouth a bit.

It is hard to describe, but to be clear I'm not sucking it into my throat. It actually moves against my teeth because of the vacuum

Huh, you talking about it made me realize I do this! I have a very, very short tongue, so maybe that adds to it? Do you happen to be able to rumble your ears?

Not on purpose, that I'm aware of. But I have experienced what you're describing, I think

Drinking hot drinks, like flavored coffee or hot milk with Milo or ovaltine or Dandy Blend. Morning, afternoon and night. I have to have a hot drink before bed. Have to have a hot coffee when working at the pc in the late morning or afternoon. Only really started maybe a year ago and I’m honestly not sure why.

Unasked for advice, just be careful drinking coffee too late in the afternoon that it doesn't turn into a habbit. It can drastically the amount of deep sleep you get at night, making you tired the next day, wanting my coffee, then repeat while slowly upping the amount of coffee.

Otherwise hot drinks seem to be soothing for a large number of people

I pick on my socks until there are holes in them. I don't know if I have sensitive feet or something but I feel any little piece of lint, stuck hair etc. and need to remove it. Some new socks only last a few days. I've tried different materials, qualities etc. but nothing lasts because of it. I've looked for some sort of sock subscription where I get sent like 10 pairs of socks a month for cheap but haven't found anything yet.

I scrub my tongue with a toothbrush until I gag and cough

When I'm falling asleep or whatnot, I place my hand between my thighs or on my crotch (under all clothes). It's not a sexual thing. It just feels comforting, for some reason..

That's your body's ultimate armpit, and your'e instinctively sticking your own hand down there for warmth.

::: spoiler a horny thing this might sound weird but when im overly agitated or anxious or stressed out i really like hardcore anal...

its kinda like an intense workout, plus the sexual release :::

Rubbing my feet together in bed, ex gfs hate it... Wiggle my toes, bend my fingers back and then clench fist and smooths down my eye brows, chew the inside of my mouth. I also vape alot when anxious

Peeling the dead skin of my ears, feels good.

Making lists. Can be of anything, really. Sometimes it's movies I want to watch, places I want to go, my meal plan / menu for the next week, things to do at work, achievements in a videogame I'm playing. Doesn't really matter the context.

I scratch the inside of my nose with a set square until I sneeze.

Im peeling the dead skin off my feet. Doing it right now. I can do it for hours. I may loose sleep and miss the whole night just coz I have that litle last bit that I need to take off.

At the end theres like 100grams of foot on the floor.
