Pro-biotic and anti-biotic are both considered good things.

It really depends on the biotic.

Yeah. Some microbes you can't live without. Some microbes, you can't live with.

Microbes. Can't live with em, can't live without em.

And some microbes you can't live without, but you also can't live with too many of them.

Flammable and inflammable are both easily ignited.

Regardless, I stay away from both irregardless.

It's generally a good idea to take some probiotic after antibiotic treatment.

Is it though? Don’t most probiotics just get destroyed by stomach acid?

Honestly if your going to take anything following a strong round of antibiotics, it’d be a fecal-matter transfusion, not oral probiotics.

No. The biggest issue is antibiotic causing a decrease in biodiversity, and the new probiotic being unable to populate due to the advantage of the existing bacteria occupying the sacks that make them able to colonize.

Your best bet is a rigorous and never ending probiotic rich diet. I think you are barely even making progress then as well.

I couldn’t find much info on it, tbh. I was just going off what my BIL (a Pharm.D) had described to me in passing and took his word for it.

I mean, since I’ve started taking a fiber supplement and making soy milk “yogurt” at home, I’ve been having some of the best gut health of my life.

The yogurt is like the easiest thing ever, too. I just open two probiotic capsules (~25M active cultures) into a quart-sized gum-free soy milk (basically shelf-stable from Trader Joe’s or Westsoy), shake it up good, divvy it into 5x 8floz mason jars…use riser and 8oz water in Instantpot, set to Yogurt, venting, for 14hr.

I take one of those and mix it in with ~60g Trader Joe’s ancient-grain rolled oats and maybe some raisins, let it sit overnight, add some agave/honey/maple syrup…makes a great filling breakfast.

It also helps that I started adderall at the same time and that gave me an insatiable thirst and I started drinking a lot more water.

I dont like probiotic "capsules". I dont trust them to actually contain bacteria that will steer my stomach in a good direction in the long term. It is only really good for taking sporadically (stomach flu, bowel movements looking undigested, diarrhea) if that even.

If you have taken adderall, you might easily be conflating certain effects when it comes to digestion. I also feel finer in the stomach when dopamine is pumping inside me. Does not mean its good for the stomach, just that dopamine is good at relieving introception.

I’m going solely off the quantity and quality of BMs. I started taking the fiber supplement a few days after the adderall because my psych had suggested that it could cause diarrhea and my quality wasn’t particularly great to begin with.

"Don’t most probiotics just get destroyed by stomach acid?"

No. That's why eating probiotic food helps diversify your gut microbiome.

For best results, take one antibiotic concurrently with every probiotic food/drink!

Like a light switch. Sometimes you want that light on, other times you want it off. Both positions of the switch are features.

"Probiotic" mostly refers to substances like yogurt that actually contain live beneficial microbes.

"Antibiotic" mostly refers to substances that are based on the ones produced by one microbe (like a Penicillium mold) to attack a different microbe (like an infectious bacterium).

So, both involve the action of microbes to help you; the difference is that one you want to cultivate in your guts, and the other you want to help fight off other microbes.
