In other news, rats prefer not going down with the ship, despite all their previous prophesying

Idk about that, I'd like to see some stats on how many GOP congressmen endorse Harris.

Rats are great swimmers, if Trump won they would instantly become loyal again.

These speakers are the real conservatives and they will tell you up front that they don't agree with most Democrats BUT they see the very real danger that their party has become. Sometimes a back-fire is necessary to fight a forest fire. In other words, take the bus that gets you closest to your destination.

Yup! We can return the favor by supporting Republicans who follow reason and act in good faith. We all recognize that in some places getting anyone left leaning elected is practically impossible. So what we can do is back a good red ticket instead. Just one of many courses we could take in the near future. If you squint, this also has the potential to lead into a three party system later on.

That said, accountability should be part of the game they're playing.

Ever heard the phrase RINO, Republican In Name Only?

Reagan and Jerry Falwell purged the liberal GOPs back in the 1980s.

These days, George W. is considered a weak sister.

Oh how typical.

Republicans speaking out against the evil they not only participated in, but profited from.. but only after they've done their damage, made their corruption money, and retired, so they can have their cake and eat it too.

Not all retired. But your point still mostly stands.

It's insane to me that Brain Kemp would still support Trump after he shit talked him and his wife for not participating in his little insurrection.

Its almost as if Republicans don't give a flying fuck about women, even the ones they are married to/are parents of.

Republican 2024 vice presidential candidate JD Vance once said about his wife, Usha: “Obviously, she’s not a white person … But I just, I love Usha. She’s such a good mom.”

That's dangerously close to the quiet part being said aloud isn't it?

When it comes to misogyny yes, but when it comes to the racism it’s a different kind of acknowledgment. It’s the “I know I’m running in the party of racists while in an interracial marriage, but I’ll live with them if they can live with me”.

Sometimes I look at how James "JD Vance" Bowman's incompetence and wonder if he's trying to throw the election on purpose to spite Trump. Really wouldn't be surprised if in October he just said "Fuck it, I endorse Kamela Harris"

Hey, females are their second favorite gender!

Then again they do only believe in two of those....

It's like none of the Republicans of the last 8 year have any ambition of their own. Willing to suck off an orange circus clown for the chance to be in the circus.

When the rats start jumping, the ship is sinking.

They might be rats, but it's a good sign.

And the DNC is welcoming those rats aboard

No. They're just realizing there's a difference between an opponent and an enemy.

I may think non-MAGA Republicans are wrong, but I never doubted that Romney, McCain, and even Bush were traitors or enemies of the United States. I'll happily work alongside Republicans when our goals align, I'll speak out when they do not, and I'll try and reach a consensus with my fellow Americans.

Trump is a traitor and an enemy to American Democracy and the rule of law. There is no compromise. No working together. He needs to be stopped at any cost, and I'll accept the help of anyone who wants to fight him.

They want a seat at the table and Trump's taint isn't tasty anymore

The other thing to note is that these Republicans believe it is in their best interest to endorse Harris.

When it comes to how politicians act, I quote my old political science advisor, they say "I'm not dying in that ditch". The bottom line is re-election. Everything else is secondary.

These Republicans, like any politician, did the calculus for their political survival and decided their chances are better speaking at the DNC- that is not to be ignored.

Not the person you replied to, but you make a great point. There's most certainly ulterior motives for joining forces. However, I would prefer to work alongside and run against (in future elections, may the voters work to keep them in existence) a relatively honorable opponent using this tactic as a means try to keep their seat, rather than their turning farther right, emboldening and embodying every trait of a traitorous enemy.

The DNC refused to let a Palestinian American Democrat speak. Republicans are welcome on stage.

What is the alternative?

Alternative headline: DNC keeps platforming paleoconservatives 🤦

Just because Trump is a bridge too far for them doesn't mean they're not the enemy when it comes to everything except presidential endorsements.

The DNC promoting these Dick Cheney-style ghouls is moving the media Overton window further right to the enormous detriment of everyone who's to the left of Ronald "sledgehammer to the economy to benefit the rich" Reagan.

I mean yes but Jesus Christ they're helping us douse an active house fire, this is all hands on deck.

a house fire they helped light and fueled, before they retired and suddenly started speaking out, totally not in an attempt to angle for a speaking head job at some network where they can play both sides.

call me crazy, but I don't particularly want an arsonists help with regards to putting out fire.

Problem is, they still want to splash gasoline everywhere because they pretend they like the smell while they own the place that sells it, and deny having to do anything with creating the current problem at all.

We don't need them. If they stop alienating the left and everyone else who's vehemently against genocide, the people in the ideological sliver between the most conservative Democrats and the least conservative MAGA cult members become electorally irrelevant.

If they stop alienating the left and everyone else who's vehemently against genocide, the people in the ideological sliver between the most conservative Democrats and the least conservative MAGA cult members become electorally irrelevant.

While I wish that were true, it's simply not, there's still more movable "moderates" in between Democrats and MAGA for them to matter massively electorally, and still far far too few leftist Democratic voters for them to have to listen to.

I've only ever heard this as a talking point but never backed up with any data. There are hundreds of thousands of voters to win in key states by forcing Israel to agree to a permanent ceasefire with conditional military aid that requires them to abide by International Law

Here's the most recent data from Pew

Far more Americans still lean Pro-Israel.

It's certainly not far more unless you're only looking at Republicans.

From the poll:

Republicans and Republican leaners are more supportive of providing Israel with military aid than are Democrats and Democratic leaners. Half of Republicans favor military aid, with about three-in-ten saying they strongly favor it.

A plurality of Democrats (43%) oppose providing Israel with military aid for the war against Hamas, while a quarter support it.

U.S. adults are divided about whether Biden is favoring the Israelis too much (22%), favoring the Palestinians too much (16%) or striking the right balance (21%) on the Israel-Hamas war. Fully 40% say they are not sure.

While overall views have changed little since we last asked this question in November and December 2023, the share of adults under 30 who feel Biden tilts too far toward Israel has risen 9 percentage points, from 27% to 36%.

But this poll does not discuss Americans view on a ceasefire. If you poll democrats and independents in swing states on that issue you get the following:

An April 2024 poll of likely voters across the U.S. found that 30% strongly supported withholding military funds to Israel until the attacks on Gaza stop; another 25% somewhat supported that conditional aid policy.

Below we asked all respondents what minimum combination of policies would secure (for non-Biden voters) or solidify (for Biden voters) a vote for Biden for President. A third or more voters in every state except Minnesota said a lasting ceasefire was among the minimum policies that would be needed to secure solidify their votes

Although voters are split on whether they approve or disapprove of Biden’s handling of the war, the vast majority (≥ ~75%) across all states still support an immediate and permanent ceasefire. Only a small minority of voters, from 11.2% to 16.1% in Minnesota and Pennsylvania, respectively, strongly approve of the President’s approach on Gaza. Of those, the vast majority in each state (≥64%) strongly support an immediate and permanent ceasefire. That is to say, a change in approach would not lose those votes, but staying on the current path risks doing so.

If they stop alienating the left and everyone else who’s vehemently against genocide,

literally nobody has done more in government to push for a ceasefire than biden and harris....

Yeah, excuse me if I don't jump for joy at the thought of a cease fire that Netanyahu has no intention of honoring if, against all odds, he signs it.

What's needed is for the US and other countries to stop supplying weapons to commit genocide with, at the very least, and preferably treat the fascist apartheid regime like they treated that of South Africa.

The DNC promoting these Dick Cheney-style ghouls is moving the media Overton window further right to the enormous detriment of everyone who’s to the left of Ronald “sledgehammer to the economy to benefit the rich” Reagan.

It's absolutely insane to see folks who would have gleefully endorsed Project 2025 any other day of the week show up to say "Donald Trump was mean to me, personally, so I'm supporting Kamala Harris this year."

They're not your fucking friends.

good lets bring back that republican party so congress can be about debating boring things like tax policy instead of having them fight to ban books, ban trans people, or ban immigrants.

Lord. I miss the days when I could say "I think the Republican candidate will meaningfully weaken American influence and moral authority on the world stage, damage our national finances in service to business elites, and cause needless deaths both at home and abroad through reckless and callous policy" instead of "Jesus fucking Christ, this is just outright, directly stated fascism, why are all of you ghouls still voting [R]???"

I remember when I was crazy for suspecting evil of the GOP, am I crazy now father? Actually I'm just kidding, my dad hasn't been for Republicans since they shit themselves upon seeing a black man in the Whites Only House

I remember when it was safe to completely ignore politics....

Not really, but I would love to go back in time and prevent the election of Reagan and Nixon

Sadly at this point I'll settle for anyone left of "Hunting the homeless for sport with brand new Assault Rifle 15s from the most recent school shooting"

I completely get where you're coming from, but that's how it got this bad in the first place: by people always settling for the lesser evil and never demanding anything more from their representatives than "at least be marginally better than the other side" of the broken and corrupt dichotomy.

After fucking decades of the most atrocious government at every fucking level - local, state, and federal - anyone could have dreamed up, why the fuck am I supposed to find the endorsement of "Guy who defunded the public libraries and day care centers in majority black neighborhoods so he could give tax cuts to the most Mr. Burns looking motherfucker in town" appealing?

These people suck. I don't want Democrats to feel like they owe them anything. Especially after Obama spent his first 100 days doing the compromise dance, only to get kicked in the balls over and over again by the most sadistic ghouls the US Senate has to offer.

It's not aimed at you

It's a zero-sum game. When you're trying to appeal to Border Patrol Republicans, that means fucking over everyone still waiting in line for a green card.

Trying to appeal to republicans sure worked out well in 2016. And in 2022. I'm sure this time, all the republicans will vote democrat if the democrats just turn into republicans in all but name.

Why is this getting down voted?

Some people dislike bots

Especially bots that can do the equivalent of a very simply google search.

Tired of getting the John McCain tier "Bias Report" with every news article.

Left of what, motherfucker!

Because its useless spam that fills up every comment section

"Fills" is a bit generous don't you think?

It shows up as a comment on the post feed, which makes people open the post only to find that its the bot

You can literally hide bot accounts

Sadly the comment count seems to be calculated serverside with no regard for banned users, so that only solves half the problem

How the hell do people think this is a good thing? I guess it helps expose Democrats for the right wing party that they are.

because a healthy opposition is a good thing for getting things done.

Would be nice if we had that. Sadly what we have is two right wing parties.

Sadly what we have is two right wing parties.

simply nonsense and silly. right wing parties don't protect womens rights, immigrant rights, gay rights, trans rights, environmental rights, and healthcare rights.

And both of them don’t do any of that. Maybe small instances on the dems’ side but really you’re fooling yourself if you think the Democratic Party is anything but a center-right corporate mouthpiece.

democrats expanded healthcare. democrats expanded voting rights democrats expanded civil rights democrats expanded worker rights democrats brought us daca

but sure both parties the same

I didn’t say both parties are the same. I said democrats are mostly center-right corporate mouthpieces.

Republicans are a blend of white nationalist fascists and straight-up deranged ghoulish lunatics.

I mean, you got a point, but as citizen of Czech Republic, they don't seem to do enough, and U.S. politics really feels like "right" and "more right".

You guys need to fix your voting system. (I know it's easier said than done, my country is about 5th of the age of U.S. Advantage of starting later is a real thing.)

Ooh now do economic policy, foreign policy and "defense"policy for the past 30 years... 🙄🙄🙄

I didn't know one of them is leftist. Which party is advocating for the removal of capitalism exactly?

You, like oh so many people, are incorrectly and harmfully putting social progress on the same axis as economic progress, when it is its own axis. And there's no logical debate that can be had about the social (or Z) axis; one side is bigotry, the other is acceptance. The fact that we tolerate the mere existence of any bigoted politician is a monumental failure of our society, let alone that we allow an entire wing use bigotry as their identity.

When it comes to the X axis of politics, one wing is capitalism, the other communism. This is the only left vs right comparison that should matter; capitalism with a rainbow sticker is still right wing.

It'd be nice if we had any healthy opposition. Instead of a party of tantrum throwers and a party of "if we compromise with fascists, they'll eventually be satisfied."

It shows that there's a diverse party of people that are trying to lead America into the future and a party that only has a plan to rule America into the ground.

Obviously Republicans that aren't willing to sell out their country for a chance to kiss the ring are looking for some way to distinguish themselves from their treasonous brethren.

i love how dems have just adopted every talking point that republicans have been using for the past twenty years, and literally nobody fucking cares, because it's actually based.

Alternative title: "Democrats have moved far enough right while pretending to be on the left that conservatives openly support them"

Disgusting

the republicans speaking at the convention are hardly hardcore social conservatives....

If Biden is doing such a good job, and things are going good.. why is Harris talking about changing everything on Day 1? I don't get it... they're in power now, and yet, everything is STILL Trump's fault...
