Spotify Wrapped 2023 - what 0.05% are you in over how many monthly listeners?

Ringmasterincestuous@aussie.zone to Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world – 43 points –

Curious to see the impact of lemmies and what we freaks are up to.

For me, I was in the 0.05% of The National (don’t ask lol) which apparently have 5.9M monthly listeners..

My wife was in 0.05% of Mallrat listeners over 1.8M monthly listeners..

Not to imply direct correlation between the two numbers of course.

83

Pink Floyd, at ~7,000 minutes. My dad was in the top 0.05% of listeners globally, with a total of ~154,000 minutes. He was in the top 0.005% of Pink Floyd listeners at ~28,000 minutes.

With a mere 243min you can be in the top 2% of Dolly Parton listeners which, tbh, seems low given that she has 16.9M monthly listeners

Wow.. everyone playing Jolene to the first chorus?

Well this is just for fun and a commute.. not reading anything into it, but that’s right up the drastic tree

0.5% smash mouth, creed and nickleback.

I like what I like.

Hahah! Love it! You’re an important demographic here on lemmy I would think!

I hope you drive some weird arse distro! 🥰

Dude, with my generic af taste you think I'm rolling anything besides windows 7? (Windows 7 on my main work rig, trying to get I.t. to upgrade it, Windows XP on my backup rig. Legacy systems f.t.(killmeplease)w. At home I rock an Asus and a Dell, Windows 10 and 11.

I'm the most generic cis mid 30s child free white guy you could imagine. (งツ)ว

♥️ To you though! (My wife is finally breaking into Linux for some statistical software for her PhD program, she says I'll enjoy sudo. I do have a steam deck that runs Linux I suppose, so there's that!)

My wife was top .05% for Taylor which is like a billion users.

I was top .05% for Emancipator which is like 11.

Discovered Emancipator a couple of years ago. So good!

Top 0.5% for Paramore at 2,881 mins. New album year really pumped up those numbers lol. pic

How do you guys navigate the UI in such a way you'll actually see anything? On my end the parts have the redundant 20sec intro and then the actual info stays for literally 1 frame before jumping off to the next chapter. Impossible to pause the chapter right at the end.

At least on desktop Im able to pause the chapter at the end.

Alright thanks, gonna have to check it out. On mobile it's like watching a marvel movie, the moment you have information on the screen it's already cut to the next bit lmao

You can also just take screenshots when it pops up

I mean it's literally for only 1 frame. Like the data flashes in and goes away, not gonna try to time the ss, especially since I have to watch the intro every time since that format is profoundly shit

My son listens to one song on repeat every night on my account....

And they have 52m monthly listeners lol... I've since gotten his own account so I can actually see my wrapped info

Hahahaha!! I suppose that could be a lot worse.. our boy, for some reason, wanted to go to sleep every night to Shania Twain. Thank god Spotify wasn’t around back then!

He grew up alright, but it was touch and go!

Which song? I cant think of any song of theirs which is helpful for sleep.

I got top 0.05 of Type O Negative who have 1.5M monthly

Edit to add: 7618 minutes

Wow you made me realise it’s been some years for me (since listening to them). And by some I mean very many! Very cool!

YouTube not Spotify but top 0.01 of Janelle Monae and 1,257 different artists so far in 2023.

Based on most of the internet at the moment I'm apart of the 0.05% of people that don't use Spotify.

Top 0.5% overall on spotify. Top 0.001% for Cradle of Filth with 30k minutes.

Edit: (since it was asked in the post) Cradle has 500k monthly listeners

Top .05% of bicep listeners. 3.2M monthly listeners.

I listen to bicep when running

i think youre confused, you should be listening to gastrocnemius while running

Top 0.05% of Dan Bull (just under 3k minutes); 807k monthly listeners.

Also top 4% of listeners overall

Top 0.001% of listeners (4.4 million) for Max Richter with 50,608 minutes. Top 0,5% of listeners overall with 185,441 minutes.

Last year I got top 0.01% of Exodus listeners (thrash metal band). 7,031 mins.

This year I got top 0.05% Municipal Waste.

Edit: both bands have around 500,000 monthly listeners if I remember correctly.

0.5% of eluveitie at 1443 minutes, I suppose not too impressive considering 907k monthly listeners. But I'm a varied listener

I have YTMusic (lol) but came as no surprise (hence the name)- only started listening this year too

35x the average user! Haha!! That is cool as! Congrats/get some help!!

Hehe.. very cool! So much new music from this post to check out on my commutes. Going to be a roller coaster of up, downs and I’m not sure what’s! Thanks!!

Great post idea! A bit misleading cause she's got range from chill (don't)to upbeat/triumphant tunes (kattekekoyoi) for workouts.

Saved this post to refer later ✌️

I think I felt this just a few minutes ago. I was checking out another reply (leprous) but just the ‘popular’ song from the initial mobile view and copied the link thinking I’d post it as a reply but realised, I have no idea if op would roll their eyes or what. Could be a sin for some crowds haha.

If I’d thought the post through it would’ve been so much better haha! I should’ve asked for a link or note of the 1 song u’d give a person to give them the best introduction/chance of opening the door to the artist. Then compiled a public list.

Even a begrudged “genre” would’ve been useful lol.. The way this is I have added a bunch of latest albums of artists in no order. One song I’m going to be in metal mode wanting someone to fight me on public transport to the next song when I’m having the dance party that strokes me out! Haha!!

Got a bit lucky with replies like yours that added the info!

Top 0.05% of Leprous with 8872 minutes. Amazing band!

What happened to Leprous? I only started doing metal a few years ago and Leprous caughty attention, but the newer stuff kinda shook me. Just wasn't able to make that jump, but if there were context, maybe I could bridge it.

I actually only discovered them like a year ago. But I really like their most recent album Especially songs like nighttime disguise are amazing!

Shoot I guess I'll have to give them another chance. Maybe I'll be able to make that genre jump

0.05% for Dessa at 1,720 minutes (165k monthly listeners).

Love to see other Dessa fans in the wild.

hell yes, Badly Broken Code is such an amazing album

Something of hers came up on random and I thought, "This is good." So I listened to a couple more songs and thought, "Hey, these are good too..." And then I saw she had like 7 albums out already and realized, "Holy shit, these are all good!"

Not 0.05% but I was top 0.5% of The Strokes listeners who have 12.6M monthly listeners. Not sure what that number can tell you though

Yeah nothing (the number) really. Just some idea of scale I suppose. But nothing direct or meaningful certainly.

The Strokes is amazing, thought I missed a new album for a second there lol. 😅

I was top 0.5% for ZZ Top, with just shy of 800 minutes.

This is so interesting. What distro are you running? Tehehe!

I’m not sure what I had in mind but I probably wouldn’t have guessed this one was going to be here.

Makes a bit more sense when I think it through (with my incorrect, limited, one eyed perception of the user demograhic)

Right now Ubuntu... but I ran Arch(btw) for 10 years before that, and various before that, for 10 years. I just happen to enjoy classic rock... but I listen to a lot of different things. Mostly different forms of metal, but quite a lot of electronica and classical music as well My top genre was stoner metal, I listened to 3298 different artists, and 140 different genres. Like 61k minutes or something :D

Top .1 for mastodon with 4706 minutes.

I'm in the top 0.5% of J. Cole listeners, who has 44.6M listeners monthly

I was in the top 0.1% of the band Remember Sports

Apparently my top genre is bubblegrunge which is a term I've never heard of

Spotify likes to make up genres. This could be one of them. Last year I had something called "voidgaze" which was made up by them to mash up different types of black and atmospheric metal.

Haha yeah. I understand some music doesn't fall nicely under the classic genres but Spotify's labelling is a bit excessive

Yea. Genres are really only useful in describing your music taste but when no one knows what "bubblegrunge" or "voidgaze" is it kinda defeats the purpose.

Smallest percentage I got was top 1% for Yellow Magic Orchestra. 192k monthly listeners.

Top .5% of the last shadow puppets, I used spotify for just 6 months of the year tho before moving to innertune

Oh wow, thanks for the reminder about this band. I had Age of the Understatement on CD and somehow just forgot about them when I switched over to streaming many years ago

How do I see this on mine? I have a hunch I was a top listener of Gnome but I'd like to see the numbers!
