What's your default pocket loadout?

fahfahfahfah@lemmy.billiam.net to Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world – 85 points –

I’ve got wallet and lighter front right, phone and cigs front left, and keys on a carabiner tucked into back right. Back left is basically always empty.

How do you people sit with anything in a back pocket

Also how do you people keep shit in the same pocket? Hell usually everything ends up in the opposite pocket I first put it in anyway

Yeah it's uncomfortable as hell to sit with anything in back pockets. I've actually utilized this at work. My customers often have me sign out contractor keys that I must return before leaving. Keeping them in a back pocket prevents me from driving away with them. I'll know as soon as I sit down if I didn't return them

I clip my work knife in my back pocket that is on the far side distal. It's in a good spot that doesn't interfere with sitting.

My folding boxcutter has a belt clip and I hang my Gerber Dime on a suspension clip. Both live at the top of my rear pockets. I never sit on them.

Im surprised by the number of people who keep their phones in their front left pockets.

I've never thought about it but I keep my phone in my left pocket. It stays on dnd most of the time and I hardly use it especially when I'm out. The right pocket it for the stuff I'm likely to pull out and use.

  • Front Left: wallet and keys
  • Front Right: phone
  • Back Right: slim battery pack with integrated usbc and lightning cables
  • Back Left and miscellaneous other pockets: empty

Autumn, winter and spring:

!edc@sopuli.xyz

Other than that: If at work: cargo pants so top 2 pants have nothing normally, back left or right keys, bottom 2 left have phone and right has my wallet (actually a pouch so one pocket actual wallet middle pocket small olight, nail clippers, comb, hand sanitizer wipe, chapstick sometimes a Gerber eab. Other outer pockets on wallet hold zebera M301 and P701, with a highlighter.)

If not at work nextool mini sailor scissors and keys on left with wallet on right. Sometimes I carry a sak tinker instead of the mini sailor or Gerber.

I’m pretty much the same but I carry my RPG in my back left for quick access.

Your belt must be strong AF.

Jeans are stronger than fur suits.

I'm an American furry. My fursuit is woven with kevlar and has trauma plates inside.

I thought they all had some trauma inside.

It is possible to be a well-adjusted furry. It's rare, but it is possible.

I don’t think I’ve ever met a well-adjusted person, just different degrees of masking.

Maybe you should join the furry community then, since they apparently have well-adjusted people. Granted, not very many of them, but that's still more than the non-furries have.

Fucking, uh, keys and a wad of cash. Oh and phone i guess. I kinda stuff them wherever depending on what i'm wearing, i don't have that many pockets so i don't fumble for them that much. This one pair of jeans has a hole in the pocket, i don't remember which one, but basically can't put coins in that. Um. Yeah

Uh, username doesn't check out?? I suppose you could have thawed long ago and had time to adjust to modern life and aquire many pants

Jk I love how you can write like you've been put on the spot and need to answer quickly

Man i've have dozens of usernames spanning 15 years but i ALWAYS get comments about my username being funny lmao

Yeah, the key is to add "umm" and "uhh" here and there. Makes it conversational

Left pocket: Mask Grocery bag Earplugs Lip balm Stickers Keys

Right: Phone

Left pocket: keys, wallet, important items Right pocket: phone, miscellaneous Back is always empty.

I swear there existed a Tumblr post back in 2012 or earlier about remembering something like EGG: wallet, phone, keys. I just can't find it anymore v.v

These are all in cargo pants but default is phone front left; small wallet (leather card holder with a zip pocket with a tile in it) front right; keys back zip pocket, but recently I was in another country and did water bottle front top left; phone, large wallet due to cash & book front top left; travelcard and hotel key back zip pocket, passport & 120Ah portable charger front bottom right, coins front bottom right which surprisingly felt just fine so maybe I'm ready to become a suburban dad

I really thought this was about deadlock for a moment

Same, was about to say "Extra Burst, Escalating Exposure..."

Escalating exposure on pocket? I usually full gun build him.

Front left: phone, small bills, crow-calling whistle
Front right: keys, multitool, tin of peanuts
Back right: wallet
Back left: spare change, spare mask, small magnet

Im not wild about stuff in my pockets so I switched to a bandolier. Also nice to not have to swap things over as you swap pants.

I too prefer to not having anything in my pants pockets. Can't wait until it get cool enough to wear a light jacket so I can utilize it's pockets

yeah I do switch to my winter jacket pocket in the winter. You never forget you keys or wallet someplace when its in your jacket and its cold outside.

If your wallet or keys are in your pants, how would you forget your pants???

good point. I think its just more likely I might take my keys and/or wallet out of my pants for comfort reasons. Since I ditch the whole jacket when indoors it all comes back as a unit.

Me too. I've got several "purses". Can't stand much in my pockets.

the bandolier itself does not even have its own pockets. it has a metal ring and I have a zip up wallet on a carbiner. I basically have a bunch of stuff on carbiners.

Front left: phone

front right: wallet + hand towel

keys are clipped to belt loop and also generally tucked into back right.

omg they pick you up with a hand towel? I carried my beach towel my whole life.

I live in a humid subtropical climate. That hand towel does a lot of sweat wiping. Also hand drying after washing hands more rarely in public toilets with no towels/dryer

A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.

A towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: non-hitch hiker) discovers that a hitch hiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, face flannel, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet weather gear, space suit etc., etc.

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/964943-a-towel-it-says-is-about-the-most-massively-useful

Ah, I forget that part of it, heh; I haven't read that in at least 20 years, probably more.

Front left: phone, wallet, headphones (if it's cold and I'm wearing a jacket headphones go in the left pocket of that) Front right: keys Back: nothing

Phone in left front pocket, keys in right front pocket. Nothing else, that's all I need if I'm just stepping out. I have several hobbies though, and I have a separate backpack/bag for each one, loaded and ready to go.

Front right: Wallet. Always there, even when I sleep.

Edit for front right, I also keep minimal keys there.

Front left: Phone.

Rear right: Multitool.

Rear left: Smokes and lighter.

Front right - phone Front left -keys, hanky, lip balm Wallet goes back right

Front right - small wallet, minimal key set. Front left - phone.

My wallet only holds 4 cards (id, driver's licence, health insurance, debit card), sometimes cash (notes, no coins). I just take a couple of keys, for home and office, plus a Darth Vader Lego keychain.

I vape, and I usually just hold that...

If it's jacket (or hoodie) weather, I keep my vape and keys in a jacket pocket.

When I go to the office, I have my backpack, and I transfer everything in there, except the wallet and phone.

  • side left: flashlight, keys
  • front left: phone
  • front right: knife
  • side right: pepper spray, coins
  • back left: wallet

Front left: lighter(s), earbuds, car key(only if at work, I lock my house keys in the car as I have a habit of leaving my coat in the lunch room)
Front right: sometimes phone, if at work nothing as I put my phone in my jacket breast zip as I'm a stone mason and I really don't want to smash my phone...
Back pockets: nothing, sometimes my travel mug if I'm not wearing my work jacket.
Work trousers cargo pocket: tobacco/vape

Why not combine your car keys with your house keys so you can't drive off without them?

I do, when I'm not at work. The car key has one of those little clips on, so when I'm at work the car key either goes in my left pocket if I'm not going to need my work keys, or gets clipped on my work keys. When I'm out on a weekend the car key gets clipped on the house keys

Front right: phone. Maybe keys if what I'm wearing doesn't have damn belt loops.

Front left: wallet and earbud case. Maybe a pair of sunglasses if I forget that I can can just tuck em into my shirt collar since I'm a dumbass.

Back pockets: nothin' because I'm not my dad nor a pyschopath.

Bonus: If I'm wearing pajamas with no pockets then I guess it's all going in my elastic band / undies.

Jeez everyone carries a lot of shit in their pockets.

I carry my bank card in a side pocket down by my right knee and occasionally keys in the front left pocket.

Front right is wallet and keys front right mini pocket is pixel buds, milwaukee fastback, and file cabinet key. Front left is just my phone. Back right is work badge. Back left is typically where I collect receipts without realizing it. I also have a pen pocket by my right knee which always has a pen

I wear cargo pants or shorts.

RR - Gerber Dime on a suspension clip.

RL - Stanley folding box cutter which has it's own belt clip.

FR - Car key on a suspension clip and in the bottom of the pocket 3 keys, a mini Sharpie and nail clipper on a keyring.

Front left pocket: wallet; flashlight

Right leg pocket 1: personal phone

Right leg pocket 2: pack of gum; loops

Left leg pocket 1: work phone

Left leg pocket 2: Thinket

Phone right, keys left. Don't need a wallet cuz I just pay with my phone.

I use Google tap to pay on my phone, my front door has a code, and I walo to work so I don't need a car key.

All I take with me is my phone and my work ID badge.

Front left: dog treats. Who's a good boy?

Front Right: phone.

Front Right inner pocket: earbuds.

Back: empty. Anything in them gets squished or pokes my ass when I sit down.

Jacket left: wallet. Still hauling around a leather one like a cave man.

Jacket right: keys.

Front right is keys and wallet. Front left is phone and a Leatherman.

Nothing in the back because of issues putting things there.

phone left, wireless earbuds right. If I need anything i else i stuff it in my earbuds pocket. No back pockets.

  • Front right: phone, pen, gerber multitool -Front left: wallet w/ yubikey, pillbox, one or two jolly ranchers. (switch jolly ranchers for cough drops occasionally )
  • Back right: empty. (usually saved for notes or receipts )
  • Back left: glasses cloth.

Front left: phone

Front right: UltraTac k18 flashlight, Leatherman Style PS, space pen (it collapses to half length), keys

Pocket knife clipped inside my waistband, front right crotch. Easy to draw, clip won’t scratch or gouge anything.

Nothing in back pockets for comfort

Those get carried full time in house and out. I carry a small shoulder sling or waist pouch for wallet and other sundries when going out.

Just phone and keys. You guys bring wallets everywhere?

Phones

How many?

I misspelled, phone, just one Althought sometimes I have my work phone with me, but rarely

I'm assuming work and personal?

I've done the same for years, but am thinking of making use of the second SIM slot in my personal phone and using profiles to separate everything. Many phones can also use an eSIM, so that's also an option for multiple numbers.

Car-centric infrastructure, baybee! Better have those credentials or you might get shot or imprisoned! Or both!

I got credentials, just on my phone

Oh, I thought you were asking why people were carrying wallets. My ID is in there, is my reason. I can't carry my credentials on my phone, so a slim wallet is my answer.

In the Netherlands, there's no duty to carry ID with you everywhere you go, but if you happen to be asked to show ID by someone with the authority, you have to, so it's sort of mandatory in practice because you never know what'll happen.

I count to five before leaving the house. 1. Wallet, back right. 2. Cell phone, front right. 3. Keys, front left. 4. Watch, left wrist. 5. Sunglasses, usually tucked into my collar. Back left empty as well.

Back right: half of my phone (unless I'm carrying my purse)

Purse: pencil, pen, journal (X2), book I'm reading, pocket mirror/makeup pouch, sunglasses case, portable battery, cloth mask, house keys, car keys, mini flashlight, Bluetooth headphones, wallet, phone

Front left keys, front right phone. No wallet, I pretty much exclusively use Apple Pay on my watch.

Front right wallet
Front left phone
Keys on a carabiner hang from my rear right belt loop

Phone in front right, wallet and keys in front left. When I'm not at work, that's basically it.

I wear a small satchel at work; I keep a water bottle, clipboard, and notepad in the main storage compartment. My satchel has a few side pockets as well; one holds my pens and markers, the second holds a box cutter and a pair of gloves, and the last one holds a small first-aid kit.

Front right, keys and lighter. Front left, cigs. Rear right, wallet. If I must carry my phone with me it'll be probably in the front left pocket alongside the cigs.

There are ten things I cycle through depending on different circumstances. Is it sunny? I'll bring a notebook. Is it rainy? I could sog it, unless I'm indoors. Am I going to get into a building? Better bring my keys, or not if not. There are tons of circumstances. The only constants are money, which I keep in the pants/skirt/jacket/shirt pocket of my dominant hand when possible, and my glasses, which I am either wearing or have in my opposite pocket when possible, the former currently safe from pickpocketers in my breast pocket of what I'm wearing underneath my sweater (unless a pickpocketer wants to go that route).

Left: phone

Right:keys and headphone case

Back left:wallet

Back right: Pocket knife if I need it, but usually just empty as I keep that in my car

Honestly, I went to a small sling backpack to get everything out of my pockets. It gets uncomfortable, but I didn't realize it because I was putting everything in my pockets for so long. Sitting with one side higher because of my wallet in my back pocket, and a big bulky phone shoved against my thigh, etc. Now I have a belt case for my phone and everything else in my bag, and jeans have never been more comfortable.

Front right is phone, front left is wallet. Keys hang on left side belt loop. Vape in left side pocket, knife in right side. I have magnetic sunglasses that I put in the back right pocket when I'm not using them. Back left is for receipts & such.

Front pockets: phone and wallet.

Back pockets: keys (connected by chain to the wallet), a folded bandana/hanky, and a spare dollar or two not kept in my wallet. In my urban environment butt-dollars are important for tip jars, street performers, panhandlers, vending machines, or other cash-based occasions at which I'd rather not whip out my whole wallet.

Front left: cigarettes and lighter

Front right: Keys, handkerchief

Back left: phone

Back right: wallet

Leg left side: 10 in 1 screwdriver

Right leg side: ballpoint pen, sharpie, white marker, mini vise-grips.

Is anyone else hearing that Adam Sandler song "phone, wallet, keys" right now?

Front left- Leatherman surge, zippo, random fidgety thing. Front right - pen, flashlight, moneyclip Back left- phone Back right - folded bandana, keys clipped to belt loop tucked in.

It's alot but I'm naked if I leave something behind.
