Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Wednesday that bans homeless people from setting up tents or sleeping in public spaces, as he compared the issue of homelessness to the chaos of spring break.
So let me get this straight, if I, living in Florida, ever found a fire ant free spot to lay down and relax in a park, I'll be harassed by cops now? Or is this just for the "shittier" neighborhoods? What about people at the beach?
The current governor and Florida legislature are a bunch of mean spirited bigoted buffoons.
Probably would depend on the color of your skin...
This is just another attempt to harass people they don't like.
No, it's worse. If you go sunbathing on the beach and fall asleep, you're a criminal.
Only if you look homeless. They don't care about you they just want to harass the already disadvantaged.
This is for the 'good' neighborhoods. They'll be where enforcement happens, and it will be selective.
I think most people know laws like this are worded specifically to be selectively enforced so whichever group is their 30 min hate target of the month is subjugated and fucked with for being an outsider. You can't legislate away homelessness unless forcing vacant owners to honor section 8 & affordable housing vouchers.
GL finding a fire ant free spot.
Right? lol
Floridians don't even have the freedom to sleep where they want. What kind of big government shit it this?
this is just slavery with extra steps. pay rent to the Meatball's real estate speculators or be sent to prison to work for free.
So where the fuck are they supposed to sleep you fucking evil, heartless shitnuggets? You know damn well what the situation with shelters is.
The goal of this bill is to make it for police to be able to legally harass the homeless. The hope is that if they harass them enough they'll move to another state and then the government won't have to deal with it anymore.
In my home state they also use this bill to quell protests. That was the main drive here, to ensure politically active (for the wrong side) could have a felony and lose their right to vote.
We've already got the protest part covered in Florida. It's apparently legal to run over protesters
This.
RTFA. The bill requires municipalities to provide encampments.
You know, so they can concentrate people somewhere. In a centralized camp.
I can already imagine razor wire fencing and a watchtower or two around these public "encampments" soon, you know, for their "safety".
They can have a motivational slogan above the gate:
Arbeit macht frei
"My grandpa died in one of those camps. He fell from the guard tower."
And provides funding for the municipalities to create said encampments, right? Surely it doesn't require those
blue Demonrat controlled citiesmunicipalities to fund such encampments on their own, right?Let's see: biology demands humans sleep every day, and not always voluntarily. Yep, we should criminalize that.
Also, let's criminalize public eating, drinking, and breathing unless you have a house.
Just a massive gift to the for-profit prison industry at a time when evictions are at all time high.
They gotta see that line go up somehow.
That's one way of the govt providing housing. It's the most expensive and stupidest way, but still.
But at least they get to make them suffer more. That's the point right?
"more crime more profit " -for profit prisons, probably
Three hots and a cot Ronda
Fixed
Ronnie's lashing out cause he failed miserably at his pwesident run.
Wasnt even 2nd choice for the GOP behind Trump lmfao
Behind a woman, at that. I don't think his image ever recovered after the white boots fiasco
What the actual fuck are those things?!
The Ronald Vs Donald was such a a let down. I was really hoping for them to get real nasty to each other.
Reminder: Ronnie can't do shit unless the fascist FL legislature sends him a bill.
Buried lede. You missed the part where it enables concentration camps for the homeless.
More money for the prison complex like they wanted!
What the actual hell??? Last week, I had clients across from Naples to Bradenton, so i woke up at 4am and started doing jobs. Made it up to Bradenton at 10am and the last client wanted to wait til 2pm to do the job
As a result i chilled,, enjoyed a nice lunch, checked out the boardwalk, and after 1.5 hrs of enjoying the place, I entered my car exhausted, set an alarm to 1:30pm, and fell asleep.
You're telling me that THIS NAP I TOOK WOULD BE ILLEGAL?!?!?!
Yes, and I have been hassled for it (not in Florida). Small town cops are the worst by far. I imagine if you have a nice car you might slip by though.
Or they can arrest you for loitering or some b.s. and impound the car. Then maybe let you go with no charges after 48 hours, but youe car is still impounded and you pay 2,000 to get it out or cops can seize and auction it off. Welcome to the USA
Some municipalities may charge you with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The reason is that you clearly had the means to operate the vehicle and you did not seem to be alert while observed.
In this case, actually no. The bill exempts sleeping in a vehicle provided the vehicle has valid registration/plates and is legally parked.
You need to arrest that baby over there right now. It's sleeping IN PUBLIC!!!
So next steps are to round up the homeless and put them into "work camps" of some sort? I've seen this somewhere...
That'll stop them! Maybe now they'll simply get off the streets and buy a house!
It's big brain time
To be swiftly reversed after Trump’s home is seized.
Well more likely when the courts reverse this, if they reverse this.
Based on his Twitter activity I don't Trump sleeps. So he won't have to worry about this.
Great, so they get free housing and food in prison, right?
It's good thing this short impotent fuck is trying to make meat alternatives illegal instead of addressing problems like homelessness. I mean how many months are all of us from being homeless in this terrible state‽
DeSantis: "fuck people my friends gotta stay rich and get richer!"
Reason # 4097 to not visit Florida ever ever ever.
So much for those relaxing afternoon picnics in the park, I guess.
"DeSantis told reporters, as he signed the bill that will take effect Oct. 1."
I guess he's feeling confident over how the Supreme Court is going to rule then...

Hard to imagine how they can overrule Boise but the court has made some strange decisions in recent years.
Reason #* I'm glad I don't live in america
In my youth during the 80s, 90s I've always dreamed of moving to the U.S. now I'd rather stay where I am.
I wonder if this means political officials can be sued and jailed for allowing homelessness.
Until they get every homeless person off the streets, they will be fined daily and if after 90 days they will be locked up?
Ban extreme capitalism.
Dumbfuck thinks he still stands a snowball’s chance for the White House in 2028.
How was this moron elected in the first place and why dont i get a shot at it. Cant be worse, really
Florida voters. Does it need any more of an explanation? You don't get a shot because you're not in the "in" group (assumption based on the fact that you're posting here and asking that question specifically). Unfortunately, it could be worse. Much, much worse. But that's irrelevant.
Because the people that elects him hasn't had homelessness happened to them yet.
Cut FL off from the North border and let it sink into the water. It's pure wasteland and will be covered in a few years anyway.
If they don't do anything soon it'll be like Arizona
Yeah that’ll solve it.
How much does DeSantis pay from his own paycheck for his housing?
