Johnston... previously pleaded guilty to a felony count of interfering with law enforcement during civil disorder in July 2024.

The 56-year-old actor was initially arrested in June 2023 after the FBI tweeted a photo requesting information about his identity. He is alleged to have led a group to the “front line of rioters confronting the police who were defending the entrance” to the Capitol, helping to launch an assault against a group of officers.

Good luck getting hired after a Jan 6th conviction.

Kevin Sorbo is looking to put a team together.

You know what the difference is between Kevin Sorbo and a fishing lure?

A fishing lure gets cast.

Looked up his imdb, he seems to be getting a lot of roles recently

https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0001757/

You might see who's making all those movies. Because it's not Hollywood, other than the Reagan film, which he had a small part in and which also was a box-office bomb.

He makes right-wing Christian movies because those are the only roles he gets.

When he was Hercules, he was one of the biggest stars on TV.

But hey, he has an 8-episode sitcom on Twitter which I'm sure is hilarious and also a big success, like all TV shows on Twitter. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt12825094/?ref_=nm_flmg_job_1_cred_c_2

I don't really watch Christian movies.

The last thing I saw him in was that home alone, but with a dog instead of a kid. "Alone for Christmas". I can't really recommend that, either.

Yeah, nobody does. That's why citing them as Sorbo "getting a lot of roles" is a fucking joke.

You're not making Christianity better, you're just making movies worse!

You aren’t wrong but be aware those are largely low value christian/conservative media roles

Does it look like the sort of thing you'd want to watch, though?

A lot of that list had me wondering if IMDB sometimes showed ratings out of 5

According to my Facebook feed, every shitty right-wing actor you can think of is being offered $1B to start their own anti-woke streaming network.

God, I need to just add that site to my AdGuard list.

Holy shit, Vince McMahon is rumored to be starting a media company. Could it be related?

I must not be shitty or right wing enough I have two credits to my name (one is as a forearm so you know I made it big) cause this is the first one heard. I could use a billion bucks

I dunno, might be able to get a cabinet position depending on how the election goes.

He aint exactly in an industry that cares about doing background checks if you understand.........

I think Bob's burgers was kind enough to throw some work his way, he's been in a few episodes since the charges were laid.

Whether they'll do so when he gets out, or whether the class based stigma of the conviction will prevent them, is another question.

As far as I know, Eric Bauza has voiced the character since the charges were brought to light.

class based stigma

oh, that's what you're calling insurrection conviction this week?

That's what I'm calling all prison convictions. Because there's a stigma there. It's part of why prison labour can be so easily exploited. Because it's a class based stigma.

Someone charged with a cannabis position isn't the same as someone charged with trying to overthrow an election.

AIUI those were already partially in the can when he was still charged and they stuck by the "Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law" especially since he is voicing the role and not appearing as a face actor. I don't expect that to be continued and I would expect a death or recasting soon.

well it seems like they got the right guy for Jimmy Pesto role

I'm so glad they brought back Jimmy Pesto but recast the actor. That was a sure sign that they were done with Johnstone.

Really wanted an internal nod where he goes to jail for terrorism and his wife takes over and blames Bob, keeping the feud alive

I think Eric Bauza voices him just as well if not better. And he's a way cooler guy in addition to not being a terrorist.

I agree! They could've done it the quiet way and just stopped using Pesto, but they said loud and proud, "We don't support this."

After the real heavy, emotional storylines of the newest season, I'm not surprised. Those burgerpeople seem on the up-and-up for sure.

FAFO

I had to Google to check my decription for this acronym. Turns out it is Fuck Around and Find Out, which makes sense. But I also like my initial guess in this context, which was Fascist Asshole, Fuck Off.

...Jay Johnston, known for his roles on Bob's Burgers and in the January 6th insurrection...

These words should be in every news article about him ever now.

I almost wish I watched the show so that I could see the in-universe reference / explanation.

There isn't one, they just got a new voice actor.

Pretty sure Seth McFarlane has had in universe conversations about the departure of other VAs, such as Joe's Wife Bonnie and of course the legendary Mayor Adam West, so it's a little sad they don't even make a bit out of it.

"Oh that guy? That was my identical cousin, yeah he's in prison for trying to overthrow democracy or whatever."

Bob's Burgers doesn't really do MacFarlane-style "LOL we're a cartoon" meta stuff.

Solar Opposites did it very well when they jettisoned Justin Roiland. His character gets hit in the throat with a dart and then zapped with an uncalibrated voice repair ray. His partner thinks the new (and suddenly English-accented) voice is sexy so they don't bother changing it.

Also, new Korvo is way better the than slightly-altered Rick that Roiland was crapping out.

i was watching the sarah silverman program recently and the amount of shit she gives his character is almost cathartic now. it seemed sharp and silly on first airing, but now its just warranted.

I can imagine there would have been an interesting dynamic between this piece of shit and fellow Bob's Burgers voice actor Sam Seder...

For an attack on the beating heart of America that puts what Osama Bin Laden did to shame in terms of threatening the country itself?

At a certain point America deserves the next one.
