Like he and Merry wouldn't have set it off in the Shire out of curiosity

Its bc Pippin is also the President of the United States

What could be shoot that he didn't already shoot? In the books, he already managed to fell a fell beast from long range. And it's not like shooting the eye of Sauron with a sniper rifle would kill him.

A sniper file would have stopped the orc that blows up the wall at helms deep.

Yeah but with the higher reload time, he might not have been ready for the first shot.

He did all of that with a bow, imagine him with a sniper rifle...

Same number of kills just at longer range. Gimli still wins.

it would be much harder to stab an orc with an arrow then shoot said arrow if Legolas was armed with a sniper rifle

He could just do the equivalent and stab them with bullet, duh

Honestly, it seems like he'd have about equal stopping and slower fire rate.

And it's not like shooting the eye of Sauron with a sniper rifle would kill him.

I agree, but I still think someone should have tried. Even if it didn't kill him there's a giant gulf between not killing him and doing nothing.

This applies more to Voldemort than to the eye of Sauron tbh. Ofc he has horcruxes blah blah blah but if they just got an SAS sniper to shoot a 50 cal sniper round at him from a mile out - again, I'm not saying it would kill him but... would it have done nothing? All I'm saying is there's a thing called due diligence and they should have at least tried.

Also it might be possible that attacking the eye of soron could blind him.

That's an awfully thick book on the right to hold one page's worth of material. Heck with a simple modification it could be one sentence:

"Legolas fires the ring straight into Mt. Doom with an RPG attachment."

:-P

He shoot his arrow faster than he can reload a sniper rifle, and he took down a freaking giant elephant with a freaking bow and arrow! Recoil will just slow him down.

And he mostly have to deal with load of uruks, an assault rifle will be better for him.

lord of the rings but gandalf has a trebuchet and mt. doom is within 300m

Lord of the Rings but Frodo has an assault rifle.

Frodo is a little bitch, give it to Sam

Lord of the Rings but Sam has an assault rifle... and an armored SUV

"Time to TRIM and MOW DOWN Mordor's orcish hordes!" - Samwise "The Gardener" Gamgee

  1. They can outrun the black riders.
  2. The black riders alert the witch-king.
  3. They can't outrun the fellbeast.

So yeah, pretty short. But if they are able to maintain stealth, then:

  1. They get stopped at Caradhras by bad weather anyways.
  2. They go through Rohan instead of Moria (otherwise they'd have to abandon the SUV or be very dangerous.)
  3. They outrun any of the cavalry that might try to stop them.
  4. They get through Minas Tirith months before the battle, no biggie.
  5. They get stumped at the Black Gate.
  1. They call in Gandalf in his A10 Thunderbolt II (because the eagles didn't have a 30mm GAU-8 Avenger). Drops a paveway on the Black Gate and dumps 1,174 30mm slugs and a few clusters of hydra 70mm rockets into the horde.

armored cars really only make sense for open areas, what they should have is 6-wheeled ATVs like finnish military messengers have.

Frodo is the sentient equivalent of tying the ring to a snail.

Jokes aside he is supposed to be exceptionally resilient to its corruption.

Lord of the rings but the giant eagles are stealth bombers.

There must be room in the world for a high budget β€œMordor vs USA” parody movie.

Or maybe a 30 second comedy video.

Reminds me of the sniper in saving Private Ryan.

Put me within 1 mile of the furer, you can pack it up boys, wars over, we going home

Or something like that

Elves have standards.

Be polite.

Be efficient.

Have a plan to kill every orc you meet.

My party does not care for me at all.

I'm an assassin not a crazed elf.

What's the difference. Well ones a job and the other is a mental sickness.

Gibliy put frodo on the communication spell.

So did he shoot a bunch of songs and pages of description too?... Cool, cool I mean I'd pay to see Tom Bombadil got shot in the dick ...

Did Legolas even have a big role in the books?

It's largely the same as the movie. The big difference would be the battle outside Minas tirith, the battle gets glossed over when the boats arrive with a regular army. He probably didn't kill an elephant singlehandedly.

So basically Legolas in the books with a Sniper Rifle is just Legolas in the movies?

Sniper Legolas would make some things easier, hunting the uruks would end with them all being shot well before fangorn. If he had infinite ammo, he probably would have taken out a huge chunk of orcs at helms deep before the seige.

He's going to need ear protection too, otherwise half the reason for him being helpful, his extremely good hearing, isn't going to last long.

He just kills Tom Bombadil and then throws the rifle away, doesn't like the smell.

loll this is also what i think if they just used the eagles logically

Use the eagles? You don't just USE the Eagles. They are intelligent beings. They don't submit to the will of anyone. They kindly risked their lives toward the end, and only because things had escalated already.

you are right. so sorry... one does not simply use the eagles
