It's your first date and she/he asks what type of music you like. What's the guilty pleasure you won't tell her/him about?

Why isn't it just common practice jmto just use "they" instead the entirely cumbersome "he/her"?

Like it's just so much easier to type out and say, and it's just better to use regardless.

The fun part is that you'll have people complaining about it either way!

Yea, but the people who complain about "they" are assholes so we can safely ignore them.

I am offended by your use of 'people', that excludes folk and kin!

Rawr!

You were not appreciated in your time.

Not only is it more readable and aesthetically-pleasing, singular "they" is more inclusive of people outside the gender binary!

Love how the top comment doesn't even answer the question. But TIL, I guess. If I had known this option existed, I probably would have used it. I'm going to play the "not a native english speaker"-card on this one.

Because "they" refers to multiple people?

It doesn't though. They has been used for singular without knowing the gender for a long time.

My friend forgot their umbrella at the office.

They nervously answered the phone.

They're a lazy motherfucker.

I gave my friend a hug and wished them a speedy recovery.

Any of those sound unusual, or like they're referring to more than one person?

I was taught this very aggressively in school, but it turns out that it’s just not true and there’s a long history of singular they.

None!

There should be no guilty pleasures in music. Especially dating. It's much more attractive to have a wide range of tastes and be comfortable with what you like.

yea exactly. I don't feel guilty for the music I like

Doesn't exist. I tell them what I like. If they can't handle the truth then it wouldn't work anyway.

I also don't have guilty pleasures. I enjoy things.

Nickelback.

If I have to hate a reasonably decent pop rock band to earn points I shouldn't even be on the date.

I don't have a baseline when it comes to pop songs. Also, I have never been on a date anyways. So, it's all good.

So I put my hands up. They're playin' my song, the butterflies fly away. I'm noddin' my head like, yeah. Movin' my hips like, yeah. I got my hands up, they're playin' my song. They know I'm gonna be okay. Yeah, it's a party in the U.S.A. Yeah, it's a party in the U.S.A.

My workout playlist consists of anime openings and Power Metal. I don't watch anime nor play D&D, but I like the fast-paced and fantasy/superhero style.

ive seen barry manilow in concert 4 times

That's pretty fucking awesome.

hes just one of those guys that gives a solid live performance. he sounds exactly like the albums, not a lot of extra bullshit.. mostly him and the piano.

similar with weird al.. my hands down favorite live artist.

Steely Dan. The worst part would be I won't stop talking about the drum solo in Aja.

I bought a Front242 CD from a record shop once, got home to find out the staff had grabbed Steely Dan CD an put that in the case accidentally. (The days before tamper proof display adapters, where the media was stored behind the counter)

I went on a 160 mile bike ride and wound up listening to the same Tove Lo album on repeat the entire time, not because it was too much of a hassle to change up the music or anything

Was it Queen of the Clouds? I like Lady Wood and Blue Lips too, but QOTC is just such a "leave it on, no need to skip any tracks" album for me. Such a vibe.

It was Lady Wood. I think QOTC is 'the album' but I usually listen to stuff that's newer to me when I'm out exploring, so I was giving Lady Wood a fair shake. The songs I like the most on that album are so evenly distributed that I'd just zone out through one song and get excited to hear the next one

It's your first date and she/he asks what type of music you like. What's the guilty pleasure you won't tell her/him about?

I love music and hate but being myself (AuADHD weeeee) so, they're going to hear an honest answer. If they're not down with my love of folk punk and what I classify as "shitty punk rock" (you just the kind - overly-compressed, terribly mixed, played by people who barely know how to tune a guitar), well, that's fair enough. Same as if they aren't up for my, AuADHD - neurodivergence can be a bit to handle.

I will gladly tell them how much I like Weird Al.

That's not really the question, though

It's in the spirit of the question, with 'Nobody' being the implied direct answer. Just saying my pleasure (musically) is not guilty or secret.

Yeah and I definitely agree, your taste is without reprieve.

It's just that it's the opposite of what the questionneer wanted to know

ICP

Came here for this. I can still recite a crazy number of those songs 20+ years after I stopped listening to them.

I actually went on an ICP rabbit hole earlier this year and played all the videos I didn't know existed. I just listened to their albums in my youth. Luckily my wife used to listen to them as well and we made it a drunken night of it.

Nice. I did listen to some of the albums that came out after I fell off the wagon. Nothing quite as good as those first few joker cards though.

Mindless Self Indulgence

Understandable lmao.

"So you like this song called 5 what now? And what did he just call Jimmy Paige?!"

song called 5 what now?

Wait, which song are you referring to? For the life of me, I can't remember

Lmao I don't even want to say the full name here, but "panty" oughta be the final clue you need on that one lol.

I kinda forgot about them, but same. "Frakenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy" got a lot of plays from me when I was in highschool

Hyperpop. I'm a Christian and only date other Christians and many of those songs have pretty lewd lyrics.

That sucks that you can't just be yourself

Yeah, there's a part of me that wants to stop caring and just show some of that music to whoever I'm on a date with.

Carmeldansen in its original form is legitimately a good song and I actually love the whole album its from.

depends, but I usually don't reference more of the occasional things I listen to , less of the electronic/breakcore or experimental/obviously avant garde (less Secret chiefs 3, more crossfire duo )

EDIT : my wife doesn't mind the tech death/grindcore, she does mind the free jazz/avant garde classical

I love singing Kalinika... I'd probably avoid mentioning it because Russia is an authoritarian state that likely wouldn't approve of me dating the person I'm talking to. Also, the Russian government sucks in like a billion other ways.

There's a Ghoooooost in me
That wants to say I'm sorry
Doesn't mean I'm sorry...

I love that song, gives me nostalgia for little big planet

I didn't know it was on the soundtrack there. I just really dig her vibe, and have been going through a lot of her songs recently

Metal. A lot of people kinda freak out when they hear you like metal of any kind. And not in a good way.

Sounds like the kind of people i would not wanna have a second date with..

Marching band music. Can’t get enough of it.

Dude, I would be ecstatic if my hypothetical date said they listen to marching band music. Please recommend me some.

Kpop. But to be fair, I listen to a wide variety of genres, from prog rock to metal, r&b, EDM, and film scores.

italo-disco. though i might reveal that in a later moment.

200- 2010's indie rock/pop like the kooks, mando diao, vampire weekend, etc

Sonic the Hedgehog soundtracks, specifically the songs with vocals. Haven't kept up with the series in a while but my playlist has songs from everything from Sonic CD to Sonic and the Black Knight. I'm sure some of it is actually good music and some I only like because it reminds me of Sonic.

I guess it'll take a few more dates before I show her What I'm Made of...

I don't know how she woud react to the entire ratchet & clank OST so I probably wouldn't show her this.

...every once in awhile i listen to top fourty countdowns from the mid-eighties, not necessarily because i enjoy the music, but because i'm mesmerised by the time-warp effect of revisiting period radio programs...

...i disliked a lot of the music then but i enjoyed the shared cultural experience of legitimately popular broadcast media, and retrospectively it's a window into a world which no longer exists...

Probably the cursed remixes on YouTube, they don't need to know how much of a banger beatswapped uptown funk is.

Demi Lovato's first album, Don't Forget. It absolutely slaps but it's difficult for me to talk about it.

I don't really have guilty pleasures, but I'd probably keep Pupil Slicer and HIDE for the third or fourth date...

King motherfucking Gordy

Nah, I'm gonna own it because if they don't like KiNG MALA then they probably won't like being with me

My Chemical Romance — the first two albums at least, wasn't a fan of "Black Parade"

Why would drag go on a date with someone who uses he or she pronouns? Drag prefers enbies who present as neither male nor female.

Why do you refer to yourself like that?

Drag's first person neopronouns express drag's identity as a dragon rider. It's a form of gendered pronoun.
