You guys are using the compass app?

Get a load of this guy, just walking around all aimless

How does he even find maidens.

Yeah, like the fair ones? How does he do it?

Methinks he prefers unfair maidens, if you know what I mean..

If you DO know, could you fill me in? I haven't the foggiest 🤷

I just use the sun and stars, and occasionally the moss on a tree.

That last one's actually a myth

Moss doesn't exist

Seriously, I don't even know anymore what's true with moss.

Grew up with that saying "moss grows heaviest on the north side of a tree" and then maybe in high school or in my early 20's (there was definitely a sizeable period where tons of stuff I grew up being taught was being "um actually'd" as historians or scientists learned more) it was debunked.

But naturalists and park rangers and shit still say it's semi true; moss does grow heavier to the north on particular trees, and other specific conditions. Which is just more confusing. 😵‍💫

It's great for field work, with documenting specimen locations with coordinates and documenting transect directions.

Big Dipper gang !

Hey, get that bare bear ass out of here or at least warn with a nsfw tag or something

I haven’t touched the compass app in two years but knowing me I’d open it by accident during the two days

Haven't even thought about it being a thing since the iPhone 5. And I'm pretty sure it hasn't been a standard app for years now.

I love these

You get 500mil but you have to live in this mansion

nah I need to check my compass every 3 seconds or I go crazy

how would i know the way to the kitchen without a compass?

I haven't used a compass in years except to prove I knew which direction the building was in for my boss.

Knowing when specific stars are at night and where the sun is (where shadows point) will tell you where north is. Knowing this stuff is why I can't really get lost. One time I tried but even in dense forest, the shadows never lie

PSA, never go into a dense forest thinking "I can't get lost".

You can get lost in the middle of nowhere but I always wonder why finding a direction seems to be such an endeavour for most/so many people.

Sun rises in the east, sets at the west. Face the sun, on your left is west, south is behind your ass.

Sun is not always visible, where I live there is frequently completely uniform grey skies. Also depending on your latitude and time of year you'll have to adjust or you'll be quite a bit off.

In my city it's even easier, there's a friggin huge volcano right to the west, the city it's built at its foot. Just look at the volcano and left is south, right is north

Where you at? Iceland? Italy? Give me a hint!

According to previous comments they seem to live in Ecuador.

And if you don't know which direction to go just go downhill. It has the highest chance of finding a river and humans always liked to settle on rivers.

Oh god I don’t know man I’d be jonesin’ for some ‘pass if I stop using it for too long

Totally worth losing out on that $250 million not go into withdrawal

I never use the compass app. I simply pick a direction and walk. Wherever I stop is where I truly wanted to go.

A holistic traveler. You just wander and always end up wherever you're supposed to be.

I have a real compass I use as little as the compass app

i blocked the instagram accout that was spewing these bullshit "you get X big number money but you can't do Y thing you already dont do for a laughably small space of time"

but it's followed me here

Imma go see if the Southern Cross is still a thing. Or maybe I should just load up with two weeks of beer and wait it out. Why not both?

I almost feel like you'd have to be completely daft if you can't find the Crux. It's like that space of stars is so distinct, nothing else in the southern sky comes close.

Use a real compass.

There are also online compasses that you dont need any app for

Or no compass at all.

Compasses are useless in daily life unless you are orienteering every day or are on a boat or something.

But if we have to find workarounds, you can just use your preferred map app which almost always has a compass integrated.

I legitimately remember needing a compass at least once but could never figure out how to use those compass apps.

It's pretty self explanatory it's a compass lol

I know but it still didn't make sense to me. No matter which way I pointed my phone, the compass showed north.

Yeah it points to where north it

okay I understand but it wasn't working. I could spin around in circles in the compass didn't move. It always pointed "north" to the top of the phone. Even when I was pointing the top of the phone east or west or south.

I’ll just stay home for two days without needing to know anything about which dure tío anything faces?

I never use that app for its main purpose but I do play around with it occasionally. I recently found im at about ~780 ft above sea level (idk what that is in logical units like meters probably at least 4 meters murica)

Just use the compass in your maps app FFS who even has a dedicated compass app anymore?
