What are your favorite niche Lemmy communities that you want to see thrive?

Not the food wasting one.

If wasting the end pieces of sliced bread upsets you, I've got some devastating news...

Wasting anything that's still safe to eat should upset you

Don't cry over stapled bread

Noted. Can you offer me any advice regarding this milk I just spilled?

Ah dude. I'm sorry. That's devastating. It's ok to cry. Anyone would

There is only one rule about this event, and your suggestion is a violation of that rule

See this is the kind of generational trauma we need to stop.

Generations have been telling their children that their feelings on spilled milk are invalid.

It took you too long to reply. The milk curdled and went all rubbery in that time. Oh, you don't like that I'm ignoring your advice? Well, tough cheese.

Try spilling sweetened condensed milk next time, it takes longer to spoil

But those parts are the best parts

They've got so much more crust than the rest of the loaf

At least we know which side OP's bread is buttered stapled on.

Is it really a waste if it's a bread in the forest? I'm pretty sure there are atleast some animals which would definitely ate this.

Tell us you scour the forest for bread every night without telling us you do

Oh no, not 1 (one) slice of bread! Millions will starve!

Is it still 1 (one) slice of bread if it's a whole community of people sharing pics of how they wasted bread?

Is is still wasted if it's 1 (one) slice of bread?

🤔

Well, think of it this way. Since a monkey will be able to eat this, it'll mean one less gazelle eaten. So really this saves lives

I don't know a whole lot about monkeys, but I'm pretty sure they don't eat gazelles.

Ur ignrance is shoing

I want to see people stop polluting trees with staples

And I want people to stop porting meaningless reddit meme subs and instead create their own lemmy-based meme instances.

The trees deserve it and they know what they’ve done

Oh that's what the picture is... How could anyone find that funny?

Edit: Please explain it to me, cause I don't get it.

We need that bot that links the top 3 post of the community.

I'm legally obliged to shill the various crafting communities, my two most used are !knitting@lemmy.world and !lemmy_stitch@sh.itjust.works but you can find lots more in the sticky thread in either of those.

Then there's also !imadethis@lemm.ee which has been a bit quiet lately so if you've made something, go show it off!

Preach

Found minimalism this year, it's been a game changer for me. Have reduced my wardrobe by half, worked through all the misc pantry items I've been hoarding (or threw out shockingly expired canned goods...), have away stuff from my basement. Feels amazing, less clutter and more control.

So much stuff was "good to have" or "just in case" with a layer of dust on it. From a mental health perspective it's been really nice to go through and keep up with.

Good for you.

I constantly have to guard my stuff against my gf who has minimalist tendencies. She doesn't get that I like having stuff around that I pick up once every three years. It brings back memories for me. Also, who throws out books because they've read them? Heresy, I say!

who throws out books because they've read them? Heresy, I say!

Same with videogames and consoles, mangas, comics, magazines, movies...

The community on Lemmy seems less about minimalism for the sake of being minimal and more about ethics, minimal pedantry ("should we stop taking pictures because they create clutter?"), and being cheap/frugal.

Did you have a different community or resource in mind? I'm interested, but only with respect to my stuff, and in a more "buy it for life" way.

Unfortunately, I don't think Lemmy is large enough to support multiple minimalism communities which specialize in different areas.

But I agree with you: minimalism doesn't have to be for cheap/frugal/ethics/etc. I (like you) also aim to have fewer high quality items, than a many disposable ones. And the mental bandwidth I gain from maintaining fewer things is very refreshing!

Any on this instance I hope just burn to the ground since they blocked my instance lol

Your instance has 5 communities with basically no active users. Are you running it yourself?

Ps. If not make an account or two on some other instance aswell (not hexbear lol)

There’s 400 users on my instance. What do the communities have to do with anything? If there were zero communities I should be blocked everywhere? WTF kind of sense does this make? I’m blocked by sopuli due to being lumped entirely in with Pornlemmy and lemmynsfw. There’s more porn on Lemmy.world than is currently on my instance.

I have another account from when I first joined Lemmy but I’m definitely not using it just cuz someone decided to put my instance on a block list. I don’t want any part of an instance that would do that.

There’s also more than 5 communities overall. You probably just can’t see them because they are NSFW.

Well that’s kinda messed up but it’s their prerogative I suppose. Long live the fediverse.

I thought a sawmill based community would be great as I would love to post some cool videos of things but it never went anywhere on reddit. Guess it's just too niche.

I'd happily look at sawmill posts.

13thfloor at kbin.

Link for lemmy = !13thfloor

Link for kbin = @13thfloor

Oh yeah that's a great community, it was pretty lively til @Arotrios@kbin.social disappeared a couple weeks ago, I hope they all right.

Hi @Rolando ! Yeah I hope so too, hopefully they are just on holiday or something. I'm trying to keep up posting there, Arotrios posted in @worldwithoutus when I was on a break.

How is your NaNoGenMo going?

Hmmm.... I haven't posted a NaNoGenMo "intent to participate" yet... How about you?

@Rolando I can't code, so NaNoWriMo is more my speed (not doing that either this year, because I have too many committments this month).

Oh, I hope your commitments don't get too stressful!

If you ever want to learn to code, NaNoGenMo is a good excuse to do so!

@Rolando thanks, that's a good idea. I literally haven't written code in over a decade though (except the odd bit of css modification) so it would be a steep learning curve!

Nah, learning to code something that prints out a novel-length piece of text is easy. Just find an interactive tutorial like learnpython.org.

For example here's how to print things.

Here's how to print things multiple times. So now you can print a string several thousand times to make a novel-length text.

My cousin did NaNoGenMo when they were 14, they basically just had a list of names, a list of verbs, and a list of adverbs and the text was several thousand iterations of "NAME VERB ADVERB." I think they used a free replit account, but they might have locally installed python. DM me if you get stuck.

Like others I mostly miss the discussions in my old niche hobby subs. Luckily a lot seem to have communities here, they just need more participation.

Is there a bread stapled to trees sub yet?

Was kinda hoping to come across any r/watchpeopledie like communities. Didn't come across any.

Personally I'm glad. Never understood why people go searching for such morbid stuff

It's more of a "learn from other's mistakes" kind of thing for me. I've seen a lot of videos of people doing stupid shit and it being fatal.

Especially in terms of driving. That sub made me a whole lot more aware and conscious of my decisions as a driver. To not indulge in careless choices. It seems like a morbid way to learn a lesson, but when you see the after math - the lesson really sticks.
