They don't call him Drath'nor the Anus Destroyer for nothing.

You build a bridge and do they call you Drath'nor the Bridge Builder? You educate the young and so they call you Drath'nor the Teacher? You protect your sheep in a storm and do they call you Drath'nor the Shepard?

No

But you make ONE dodgy curry for the village...

The best thing about lemmy is that it brings back things like this that I often thought about and really wanted to find again to be able to fill the gaps in my memory, but couldn't remember enough about it to be able to find on Google.

Its not the first time it happens to me. Anyway, thanks op. I had given up hope on finding this one again.

This is what Reddit used to do for me. The weirdest thing Reddit ever did was give me the name of an insect that for years I tried to Google when I would see it and I have legitimately only ever seen the bug 3 times in my 28 years of life. They are so small, so infrequent, and so rare that I thought for years I wasn't even seeing an I sect but just a fuzz from a dandelion once it changes.

I mean for actual fucking years I could not find the regular name, the slang name (usually changes based on dialect, or even the scientific name. The amount of times I searched for "white fuzzy bug" or "white floating bug." No matter the combination. I even would tell people, "I remember seeing this bug and I have seen it so rarely I don't even know if it is real." And most of my friends would say, "yeah never seen it." And then that one friend would say, "dude me too." And then one fucking day I open Reddit and God dammit if I didn't believe it someone gave me the name. Actual years of feeling insane and thinking those little fuckers were a sign of something higher because of how fragile and cute they are and Reddit not only gives me the name, confirms I am sane but enlightens me on the little bastards they actually are.

I am from West Virginia and if you made it this far well by God if you have seen one then I swear on mother nature you aren't insane and we are in this together.

EDIT: A better site and image

Woolly Aphid

I’m from West Virginia too. My mom told me they were fairies.

I legit believed that shit.

I am from far far south, different dialect. Everybody know that.

Blood of a thousand innocent ani

Isn't "of a thousand anus" a dative construct, so the plural should be "anis"?

Afaik you don't declinate loanwords beyond the plural, but you'd have to ask Merriam Webster for that.

Fun little tidbit: the word "loanword" itself is a sub-type of a loanword, a calque, which is a word-by-word translation from a word in a different language. It was brought to English from the German "Lehnwort".

Loans generally follow the grammar of the host language. English has a plural, it doesn't have a dative.

Well, a dative marked by morphology, that is, outside of "him/her/whom", instead it's done by word order. Take "The smith gave the miller the hammer", "the miller" is dative, "the hammer" is accusative, you can't say "The smith gave the hammer the miller".

Also "of a thousand ani" is genitive, marking of that is done with "of" or "'s".

As to plural form: English has a gazillion of those: Caboose, cabeese (yay Ablaut!), box, boxen, etc. Some Latin doesn't hurt.

Octopi

Octopuses. It's an English word, not Latin.

If you wanted to be less wrong, but still try to look smart, you could use octopodes, since it's of Greek root. But in any case, it's an English word, and thus is Octopuses.

All 3 are correct because language is determined by use https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/the-many-plurals-of-octopus-octopi-octopuses-octopodes

Read some Wittgenstein nerd.

Get out of here you descriptivist.

Don't you know we here folk on lemmy are prescriptivists by law? God help you if autocorrect messes with your intended statement.

/s (if required)

You can make up whatever words you want, yes.

That's just saying you're ignorant of how other people communicate, so you're going to make up your own words and hope for the best.

You seem to be the one ignorant of how other people communicate.

And you seem to want to make up more words because your vocabulary is limited. Defend ypur ignorance as much as you want. 🤷

What are you even talking about? I haven't made up any words.

Nice. I put on my wizard robe and hat.

EDIT: Goddamn it, everybody thought of this one!! The Interwebz is too small.

the most interesting thing about this is the fact that "removed" is blurred out, but not "gay ass queer". times have changed and i feel so fucking old.

e: til you can't say it on lemmy.

You've brought up a real interesting and nuanced point, which is "what's the difference between an insult and a slur, and when does one become the other?" And a lot of it's just down to "whether the target of said insult/slur feels it's so offensive as to actually cause harm or be a predictor of causing harm," I think.

In the cases you've pointed out, redacted is still very much a slur, whereas "queer" definitely used to be and is now going through a sort of reclamation phase, so whether someone considers it a slur or not really kind of depends on their own history with it. "Queer" is definitely a word with an actively evolving meaning and legacy*, I think, and since we're in the middle of it I'm not sure whether it will end up fully reclaimed or the pendulum will swing the other way eventually.

*all words are actively evolving like this but it's much quicker with insults and slurs because of the emotion involved

Anyway, back to the subject of Drath’nor the Anus Destroyer.

why was removed censored?

I think it's kinda funny when people censor only slurs but leave all other insults, like it will make it less offensive lol

I think slurs are way more offensive than swear words.

Swear words are "offensive" arbitrarily. Some people don't like "shit" because it is a more crude way to say "poop". Most swearwords only became this way through classism. They were deemed offensive by the wealthy because they were initially used by the poor; using them was akin to associating yourself with the lesser classes.

Slurs are offensive by design. Their only purpose is to denigrate people based on their immutable personal characteristics (race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.)

why was removed censored?

The same reason it's censored on Lemmy.world.

covered in the blood of a thousand innocent anuses

You’re a Slaanesh worshipper, we get it.

I was told men wanted to be hit on out of no where. This is just confusing me now.

Wait so I've been asking "would you like to get some coffee" to women to "hit on" them, have I been doing it wrong? Should I have been forcing unwanted sexual roleplay on them this whole time?

Damn I forgot about Kik. I wonder if it's still used

That and Snapchat were the quintessential random hookup apps.

Why is faggot censored?

Because it's a hateful slur unless you're talking about a bundle of sticks.

It's in a meme. Reading it doesn't harm you. Anymore than reading the other stuff in the meme does, or even just knowing it's written

Censoring it doesn't harm you, either. It's a word that's only purpose is to spread hate. Nothing of value is lost.

It does, because I call my bf a removed teasingly. And a lot of my gay friends do the same.

Or a packet of cigarettes

I think you meant "fags". Not quite the same word.

Derived from the same word, but an abbreviation of it.

[This comment has been deleted by an automated system]

removed is the word that people are getting sensored for I honestly didn't even know that was a slur I just thought it was just a insult like fucker or bitch classy no but you haven't noticed people tend to insult and get into fights with people like you know someone is sheltered if they are surprised that people fight online

So?

You obviously haven't had it used against you as a call to violence have you?

No, I got called other words. Not banning them either. The R word is our word.

I would rather people don't use it at all if you don't mind and I gladly censor myself when it comes to other slurs. I can't convey the mental anguish and self hatred that I've suffered all because of an immutable characteristic of my sexuality. You can treat it lightly because you haven't gone through that suffering. It's one thing for someone to make fun of you for kicks. It's quite another for entire groups of people to hate you because of what you are.

Because it breaks Rule 1

Refrain from using harmful language pertaining to a protected characteristic: e.g. race, gender, sexuality, disability or religion.

OP isn't using it. He's quoting someone else using it.

Then it breaks Rule 5:

No content that harasses members within or outside of the community.

That's ridiculous, quoting harassment is in no way itself harassment. That would undo just about every awareness campaign ever.

Depends on the reason for the quote. Awareness campaigns quote them as examples of what not to do. There is a clear intention to tell the audience "Watch out for this, avoid it, this is wrong."

The punchline in this example is an encouragement to harass people because it's funny.

I don't buy into the concept of hate speech.

I'm curious, what exactly does this mean? Wdym by hate speech, and are you saying it doesn't exist?

1 more...

Off topic but for some reason out of nowhere ass reminds me of noodles.

Wait, is the punch line just "sexual harassment is funny"? I must be missing something. The guy said he didn't like the attention and green straight up continues with " ... said the stable boy." rather than apologising, or dropping it.

This is straight up verbal sexual harassment. 🤔Why is this being upvoted? 🥴 Even if it's fake, the joke is still "Isn't it funny that the guy said stop, but he didn't stop?! lol."

It breaks Rule 5:

No content that harasses members within or outside of the community.

Edit: To the downvoters: 🤣

Edit 2 Electric Boogaloo: 😗

I'll be monitoring further responses and then blocking this community. Thanks for helping me filter out toxic communities on Lemmy.

I thought this was Lemmy Shitpost, not Lemmy's shitstain. 💩

Edit 3: I love that I call out sexual harassment and I'm met with sexual harassment by users in this community. Hmmm, it's almost like this type of content encourages certain behaviours. Ain't that interesting?

So long and thanks for all the fish ☮

...screamed the stable boy.

Now we have actual written sexual harassment documented in this thread. 🤡

Rules 1 and 5 are being openly broken. Thanks for showing me the dregs of this community.

Are you okay? You are not a lawyer, and seem to be taking this rather hard.

I mean, it's a joke, not Drath'nor's dick.

Just to be clear, I'm not even upset. I work in STEM so seeing this all unfold has only further confirmed and given me more evidence that I was correct in my original assessment of the joke. I'm writing this stuff out in the hopes that others read it and see what is going on.

I'm all good with dark humor. But the punchline is not "sexual harassment is bad", it's "Sexual harassment is okay, and it is funny to harass people."

That's why, even though it's fake, the punchline is still "look at this scenario, isn't doing sexual harassment hilarious? You (the audience) should also do sexual harassment to other people because it's funny, and people will laugh with you."

And it's worked, there is actual sexual harassment in this thread, people have been encouraged to do it because they saw me as an easy target ("stable boy"). They saw that I wasn't for the joke, so they inserted me as the victim in the original joke. Further, people are upvoting open sexual harassment towards me.

That's why I don't really want to be a part of this community, and why I don't even want to see stuff from this community. If this is what passes as acceptable humor here (the original joke, and then continued poking fun at users), then I don't want to be a part of it.

We can agree to disagree. Again, not upset, just disappointed.

The stick up your ass is even larger than Drath'nor's throbbing cock...

I work in STEM

you could have just said "I'm on the spectrum and have trouble relating to, and understanding other people". There was no reason to write an essay. (I stopped reading after you wrote stem, tbh)

you could have just said “I’m on the spectrum

That's rich coming from someone who is anti-social. Stay mad. 🤡

And yet... It really explains everything about you and your inability to function in this post, doesn't it?

Lemmy's shitstain? I feel like you are harassing this community and breaking rule 5. Please throw out your computer, thank you.

I didn't say this is Lemmy's shitstain, I said I thought this is Lemmy Shitpost and still think it is, and that this is not Lemmy's shitstain.

But new shit has come to light, and I'm reconsidering.

Still not saying that this place is a shitstain yet. It could be, but I haven't confirmed it yet. If you want me to confirm it, then add another insult to injury and click downvote to this post.

This is fake (like all of these conversation screenshot posts, welcome to the internet, where have you been) and what makes it funny is the fact that it's fake. If a man posted it as "I've got harassed by X and this is my story" the majority would react similarly to you (some ppl would still be haha funny as we can see from actual sh/sa posts and those people can go fuck themselves). But it isn't, we all know it's fake, we all laugh about the absurdity of it and that's it.

So a fake sexual assault story that can be viewed as funny is OK now? Thanks for the heads up.

Bro he called him “faggot”. This was not a one way street

So your agreeing with me that there was sexual harassment, and then there was more sexual harassment?

Thank you for proving my point even further.

Edit: It's even worse!

That means this content breaks Rule 1 as well

Refrain from using harmful language pertaining to a protected characteristic: e.g. race, gender, sexuality, disability or religion.

So your agreeing with me that there was sexual harassment, and then there was [homophobia]?

Welcome to internet humor 20 years ago

idk if true or copypasta. If not copypasta, can we make it into one?

Technically they are right; it does violate the rules of the sub and assuming it wasn't staged or made up, that is a pretty douchey thing to do to somebody. I can see why they'd be offended.

It's still absolutely hysterical of course, but they do have a point.

"...said the stable boy" is a bit funny but it just draws back to the joke that an RPer ia forcing someone to join their ERP. ... Said the stable boy.

It doesn't feel like sexual harassment to them because it's directed towards a straight male. Change the words to "stable girl" and everyone would call it creepy instead of funny (as they should, because it is). Don't try to reason with these people, it will just needlessly make you angry.

I think i recognize some context you're missing.

I feel like this is in response to an unsolicited ERP request from the left chatter, making it essentially proportionate.

Now I can't be certain but that is a common thing I've seen people do so it feels likely.
