For those that don't want to read that article that looks like it was written by a teenage intern -

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67252752

THANK YOU! I read almost the whole thing before finally giving up, thinking "what the fuck is this site"!

Dies from possible drowning.

TMZ: New details are surfacing about Matthew Perry's death

I had this sinking feeling that they might come up with more information.

From the article, talking about the last show he did, after a 3-year run ...

Perry tweeted he found out it was being cancelled when he arrived on set and discovered his face on the stage door had been painted over with green paint.

That's cold that his agent didn't tell him beforehand.

Gotta admit, I expected it to be related to his past drug/alcohol abuse. Drowning is a bit of a shock.

It was in a hot tub. My money is on drugs plus hot tub

It was a lap pool, not a hot tub. His home he bought last June lists a lap pool, no hot tub.

Well, that confirms it. There's no way a millionaire could have had a hot tub installed since last June!

I did not know what a lap pool was. This is a lap pool.

Sources online say it was a combo of a lap pool hot tub.

Oh wow neither did I.

For some reason I thought it was a tiny shallow pool, like for toddlers to play in. Why would anyone even have one of those?!

A lap pool, for doing laps, makes so much more sense. I've lived in a house with a pool and it's just a huge pain in the ass. Being able to bust a couple of laps would be great though. I'd love to have this.

Strange, the article from la times said hot tub

Apparently his last Twitter/Instagram whatever post he showed off his new hot tub, so could be either I suppose.

Twitter is saying it is a hot tub, lap pool combo.

Doesn't really matter, does it? Not that most people, yours truly included, didn't contemplate it. But the man's dead, and that's kinda it.

One has to wonder about the medical issues he was experiencing in the past couple of years were.

I'm pretty sure addiction doesn't make one healthier or younger so you wonder what type of damage has incurred over the years of his struggles. Perhaps he had heart issues or something else that will surface in the hours and says ahead.

Still sad to hear he's passed. Money can make some things easier in life without a doubt but it can't fix everything it seems.

Apparently drowning in a hot tub, while it could be from any number of things, screams possible drug or alcohol involvement.

Yeah... It's possibly not, but the overwhelming probability is drugs.

Addiction is a disease. I'm sad to see him go.

It was possibly a heart attack that caused him to drown, which wouldn't be much of a shock considering his painkiller abuse, known to cause heart problems. No drugs or alcohol on site, but it's not like his addictions didn't leave a lasting impact.

You've gotta be pretty fucked up to drown in a hot tub

Ehh not really. Dehydration alone could cause you to pass out in a hot tub when you think you're just really relaxed.

You have to be pretty fucked up to die of dehydration in a hot tub. I'd imagine dehydration makes you pretty fucking thirsty.

I guess I wouldn't know because I have never been in a hot tub or dehydrated? I don't have much in common with Perry beyond not remembering the 90s. I was too young, he was too high.

You've gotta be pretty fucked up to drown in a hot tub

If you've got low blood pressure, could be naturally that way or medication can cause it, you can pass out fast in a hot tub. I can't go in them for that reason.

Little of column a, little of column b...

Can I just say I saw this on lemmy before anything. Nice job keeping up with the news!

back in the 90s I was in a very famous teeeeveeeee showww

The view from halfway down.

great episode. I honestly think of it often.

Shows was way too deep for a cartoon horse show lol, it’s seriously fantastic

And I can't think of any other show, cartoon or live action or anything, that was anywhere close to what this horse cartoon was.

I think it was the most honest portrayal of mental illness in a show I've ever seen. not judgy about shit either and didn't make it the only defining feature of a character. the writing was excellent.

Sometime you need surrealism to get you close to reality.

I think you can get away with more and be more honest when a talking horse is the star

Plus the whole, "why the long face.." and whatnot. Show is deep.

Is he who Bojack horseman paralleled? Or is it just a common trope.

I think it's just a Hollywood cliche with enough truth it plays out in the real world here and there. a lot of the show was a commentary on LA culture and how it'll swallow people.

there are a lot of parallels here but I'm sure it's a coincidence, but it shows how right the series got it.

that show really hit me. I feel really bad for Matthew Perry, I didn't know anything about his struggles until now and it's really sad. the world really eats some people alive.

I always thought that it was David Duchovny, but I guess that it could be Matthew Perry, or a combination.

Doubt it's Duchovny. Bojack was on a Full House style family sitcom, nothing like X Files or Red Shoe Diaries.

Did Duchovny have a drinking/drug problem? I know he was a sex addict (which, in retrospect, makes Mulders porn addiction a lot funnier), but otherwise he seems like he has his shit together

This is my first celeb death that is surreal and weird and just generally feels wrong like this person should always exist in the background. I really hope that his story brings some lessons and guidance for others. And i hope that those who knew and loved Matthew find a soothing peace in the coming days and months.

Really? I'm completely unsurprised he drowned in a hot tub. I figured that or overdose. He's been a mess for a while.

Ring-a-ding-ding, baby, what a way to go.

Shut the fuck up Benny, if ya keep yapping ill crucify you.

You would if you could, spartacus. It'll be a special someone who takes me out.

Ive got an angry mailman and a loose set of morals dont tempt me.

Yeah?! Well, I'm gonna go see what Caesar thinks!

Release the mailman.

What do you mean we're out of mailmen?!

Fuck it release the mailwoman, worst case scenario she gives him death by snu-snu.

I can't remember if you can kill him with confirmed bachelor, but I take all bets.

Really? Not Alan Rickman, Bob Saget, David Bowie, or Robin Williams?

They were sad and deep losses to the industry. I still can't bring myself to watch a a Robin Williams film.

But for whatever reason none of them had given me this sort of what feeling. That's all.

Anthony Bourdain for me

Have you read kitchen confidential yet? I had bought the book years before he passed but never got around to read it. And then he died and I couldn't bring myself to read it, until earlier this year. I am so absolutely glad I have that book, it's like hanging out with him.

Kids probably 22 and doesn't know those names

Tell me you are in your 30s, without telling me you are in your 30s

Robin Williams, Mitch Hedberg, Anthony Bourdain, Chris Cornell...Amy Winehouse...

RIP. My favorite actor from Friends.

Chandler was the best character by a landslide.

Phoebe was a close second. Chandler was the funniest character and actor.

I reckon Joey > Chandler Chanandler Bong > Phoebe > Ross > Rachael Racheum > Gunther

Wow, you hate Monica so much she doesn't even appear in the list? I'd put Monica above Phoebe, personally. And Ross is by far the worst.

Early season Monica was alright, but flanderisation saw her go to diddly-shit

They all flanderised. From the bits of early series I've seen Joey was normal intelligence, Ross was more chill, Rachel wasn't as vacuous.

He was the only one that was a truely funny person without a script.

RIP to one funny guy. I really never was into Friends, but my wife is a huge fan, and over the years, I've come to enjoy them as well.

Have you seen The Whole Nine Yards or The Whole Ten Yards? He stars in them, alongside Bruce Willis, Amanda Peet, and other notables. Very funny mafia-comedy set of movies.

He was also the lead in Fallout New Vegas, baby

Got that free from Epic a little while ago. Guess it's a good time to start it up for the first time.

Definitely! It's a blast and a half.

There's an exe patch on Nexus that let you use mods for that version. I have it too and it's great fun modded.

Drag. He seemed to be quite the tortured soul. Thanks for the entertainment, bud. Godspeed.

So no one told you life was gonna be this way...

RIP.

"if I did die it would shock people, but it wouldn’t surprise anybody."

  • Mathew Perry, 2022

Sadly, very true.

He was a troubled man at points in his life, and that takes a toll.

There's a part of me that's kind of happy for an addict when they pass away.

The sad thing is having to live with addiction in a country where it's stigmatized.

Wow, the end of a true era now that one of them is gone. :(

RIP, man. You had a rollercoaster life, but you will continue to make me laugh until I join you. Thank u!

He drowned in a lap pool, not a jacuzzi as being reported.

Correction, Twitter says it was a hot tub, lap pool combo.

Heart attack? As much as this sucks I hope it wasn't drug induced.

If he was in a too-hot hot tub and already warm from a workout it can be deadly. My parents had a hot tub and were warned not to be in it at high temperatures for long.

Could have fallen by accident, cramped up, caught in the rope, or any number of things.

For sure. People are going to speculate but literally any number of things could do it.

I’d put suicide or overdose low on my list but again we just don’t know.

According to the TMZ article, he played pickleball for 2 hours before this happened. My money is on his ticker going.

Yeah basically around 50 you’re just at the mercy of sudden death as a possible outcome. It can happen before of course but I’d say 50 onward it’s just on the table as possibly the way you go.

We can reduce certain risks, but you can never remove it completely. Even if you take care of yourself it’s always possible just some random shit happens. Sucks, definitely anyone dying before age 65 is a tragedy.

Yeah basically around 50 you’re just at the mercy of sudden death as a possible outcome.

True, and I am very aware of this as a 50+ male. But Perry has been in acoma and lost past of his intestines a few years back due to substance and alcohol abuse, as well as suffered a recent heart attack related to his addicitons. So he stacked the deck widely to his own detriment.

I can't imagine his heart didn't take damage from years of drug abuse, even if he died sober

Microsoft should honor him by rotating photographs of him into all search results.

I think this went over my head..?

Microsoft ad is probably the real reason, but also Microsoft's search engine shares the last name of the character Matthew Perry played on friends.

God damn it, this really sucks. First it was Robin Williams, then it was Bob Saget, and now it's Matthew Perry. Stop taking my 90s funny men away from me!

Huge part of my childhood. Kept hoping he’d turn things around, RIP.

Friends was my gateway into the USA-fetishizing trend prevalent in my country in the 1990s. Was a pretty great comedy ngl though.

Damn wtf, this sucks. He was awesome. He was the best character on Friends for sure.

From where he is now, it must seem like an 18-carat run of bad luck.

Thing is, the game was rigged from the start.

I don't know, if my run ends after being rich and famous and fucking around in a hot tub, I'm pretty sure you don't get to complain.

i am pretty sure you have a reason to complain after this... money isn't everything.

Mr. Perry first went to rehab in 1997 for what was described in news reports as an addiction to pain medication. In 2000, he was hospitalized for pancreatitis, an inflammation that can be caused by alcohol and drug abuse.

His addiction led to a series of complications in 2018 that included pneumonia, an exploded colon, a brief stint on life support, two weeks in a coma, nine months with a colostomy bag and more than a dozen stomach surgeries.

Rest in peace.

The funniest people always seem to be the one who has the most pain in their hearts.

Bing is the best character in Friends, and his story line with Monica is the best.

Is anyone surprised?

Cuz if you are, I'd love to talk to you about a bridge I've got for sale.

Hope he's at Peace. Dude fought some demons, it's a shame it ended this tragically.
