I have to check my previous couple messages to make sure I didn't add "lol" at the end of them so I don't make it weird by saying lol too much
Lol
lol
Iโve caught myself doing it multiple times in one message before. ๐
lol same, pretty much like this lol
I'll stop doing this when we make a new punctuation that conveys my need for people to like me lol
We did, they're called emojis.
Gen z seems to have figured that out, too. They use emojis like punctuations, in much the same way we use lol. I was annoyed by it at first but I got used to.
I'm pretty sure Millennials never caught onto that because we either used emoticons, or were traumatized into thinking that emojis were somehow "girly". So the lol or lmao ended up being the way to show emotion/sentiment.
It was because there were all kinds of tacky and terrible looking emoticon packs back then, pretty much everyone agreed you looked like a dork. Nowadays they are used to produce shitposts.
Everyone who used them back in the day had malware too.

Ooh, desktop strippers? Sweet! Iโll go ahead and get that too.
Oh no way, a purple ape assistant! Sweet, lemme git that. Iโll be ur buddy bonzi.
Remember porn dialers? Theyโd call 1-900 numbers in the background when your computer was idle and make parents really angry.
At least I think thatโs what they did.
I use emojis when talking to specific people, lol with others and some I don't use any text slang at all.
Strangely because I grew up with lots of phpBB forums, the few of them that I still engage with for things like classic cars and farm talk I always use the emojis because that's what we always did
Gotta add it to lighten up the dark thoughts and the implications of the message lol
Gen Z trying not to type ๐
or ๐ฟ
How else am i supposed to let people know im not being seriously serious? A fucking /s? Lame ass shit lol
You could say haha like a gen xer lol
I use "haha" when I actually laugh out loud, since "lol" just means "I'm not being serious" or "I'm mildly amused right now" these days, even though it is literally an abbreviation for laughing out loud.
Sounds illegal. I'd be careful if I were you.
I used to end every sentence with lol
I mean, I still do more often than I'd like to admit lol
I switched to 'haha' instead when I caught myself saying lol in real life, haha
Lol no way haha, me too XD
Now add a 3 in it
haha so true lmao xD
๐ฑ๐ฟ
I stopped adding lol as frequently when I caught myself saying it in real life
I try to write the extended "Lots of Love" now instead of shortening it to "lol" every time.
"Uncle Bob passed away, lol!"
lol, that's silly. I do it at the start so that I can punctuate with an ascii emoticon, even in forms of communication where it's not supported. ;)
Lol then I forget I added it at the beginning and end up making an awkward sandwich lol ๐ฅด.
Guess my age. :)
Guess my age (:
guess how old I am ๐ no ๐งข
this is the way.
That's fucking hilarious lol
I'm more of a "^^", "xD" or ๐ kind of guy
I actually hate when i do an old school emoji and it 'cartoons' it. Im not against the 'pretty' emojis but i want what i want to be sent how i typed it.
Lol

I've literally been called out on using lol on Lemmy. Probably ~3 months back or so?
I forget how I responded, but it definitely would've had lol in it a few times just for emphasis.
Guys, we're on knockoff reddit, not a debate forum. Having a few lols when pointing out hypocrisy or incorrect shit with citations is just the creme of the lol crop.
LOL
Hi guys my wife left me and I have to put my dog down LOL
Are you a country musician?
I recently noticed that I switched from adding lol to inserting an emoji at the end ๐
๐ lol
(I'm trying to change with the times lol)
I hate the skull emoji lol
Oh shit, lol
Fuck you lol
Millennials trying to send a text without adding lol at the end lol

It's actually not that hard, xD
Oh you cheeky little....

sentence softeners lol
This feels like a personal attack lol.
I'm in this meme and I don't like it, lol.
My personal sign off is :)
It turns out it sounds really old to call them emoticons.
I preferred emoticons. There are too many emoji. Too many of them are meaningless. No matter what platform you're on, you have to SLAM typing to a halt to go into a separate menu to pick one out.
Funny :-)
Why not both lol :)
mine was ร
leftover from nokia days
Same :)
I also get unreasonably annoyed when an application replaces my ASCII emoticons with emojis.
Lol genXer here. I start with lol
Fuck you stop calling me out, Iโm 100% serious. Stop. lol
Damn that hurts lol
Ok boomer lol
lol.
And you added punctuation! Classic millennial lol.
It's rude not to lol.
You're not supposed to use a period. "lol" replaces the period.
What's the origin of this meme? It looks like when Peter Parker was bit by the spider in Spider-Man 1967.
That sounds right. I can't seem to find confirmation though
I just scanned through my collection and found it! S02E01 The Origin of Spiderman around 5m23s.
me too, thanks lol
Imagine using lol in 2024. That's so sad. Xdlemao
I figure I'd quit when my parents start using it, just like how I quit Facebook lol

I don't think I've ever done that. I've always used normal punctuation, except for in my teens, where we all used ellipsis (โฆ) at the end of every sentence to indicate that more was coming. ICQ was the shit. Messaging apps even copied this by adding a bouncing ellipsis when you're typing. Maybe that's why we stopped using it.
lol

Dammit I was hoping we wouldn't get memes based on us as we were there when the memes were conceived.
I wouldn't put it past a self-deprecating millennial to have made this meme.
Lol

late gen z and early millennials
ha!
I haven't used "lol" in a long time, but started to do this earlier today and had to stop myself.

Think it's cause I'm a slow texter but I've never had the issue. Might also just be due to a lot online chats not really using it anymore.
Do you guys remember when lol was the response you would receive to a message? I wonder when we started switching to saying it on the end of our sentences?
I remember when people would text it to me and it would cost 10-25 cents to receive...
Does it count that I actually say lol in spoken conversation? I pronounce it laul and not lole. I know a loler though...
Oh shit I'm in this picture lol
I see what you did there lol
lol
Gen X here, and it's a struggle to not do it lol.
LMAO, we're also the only ones that use :-D, instead of the funny cartoon ones.
