@The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world is a meme god.

@PugJesus@lemmy.world keeps history alive and the Confederacy in check.

@anon6789@lemmy.world is our resident owl afficionado.

There are many others, of course, but I seem to notice these three a lot in my Subscribed feed.

@PugJesus@lemmy.world has just completely become the account keeping historical memes and historical illustration communities going, which I very much appreciate.

I'm honored to be listed with those 2 posting machines!

It always means a lot you all take the time to read my posts.

You'd get an upvote for the GGI alone from me

There is so much gold in that show! ❤️

100%. I was there from the original airing of the pilot episode through the last 22 years of multi-year breaks between seasons.

LOL a couple years ago one of my closest friends who happens to be about the furthest away from me of any of them. Shot me a message asking me to guess who they were having lunch with. I had no idea. But it turned out that she had bumped into Lisa hammer and they had been hanging out a bit. They both live up in New York near the Bronx. I may have gotten some signed Triana swag out of the deal LOL

I started during season 1 with my best friend at the time. It took me a bit to get into it, but once I was, I started back from the beginning and then it just got better every season.

Trina episodes are great. The one with the double date is one of the best. The whole set of bathroom scenes are so hilarious!

Yes would have been interesting to see if Tirana's character got a little more development had Lisa and Doc not split. But she seems to be doing well and is enjoying her work in film out there in New York. So it's all good.

But yes the rogues gallery on that show was always one of my favorites personally. The Thin White Duke as the sovereign complete with a Klaus Nomi/Iggy pop cameo in the second season finale I think it was? And all the other absurd villains and heroes they just shucked out left and right. Not to mention 21 absurd story arc.

I really hoped the baboon’s heart was king gorilla’s, meaning the return of my favorite villain.

Cigar?

King, I gotta buy my bitch back. Here's your cigarette.

F_ you, gimme a dollar!

So many great villains. 😆

You are very mich appreciated as well with your cute owl posts :) <3

I like giving you all something special every day! 🦉

Along with those already mentioned, my personal heroes are people who keep communities alive:

@MrSebSin@sh.itjust.works posts comics daily to !garfield@lemmy.world and others

@perishthethought@lemm.ee keeps !fullmoviesonyoutube@lemm.ee going

@JohnnyEnzyme@lemm.ee posts regularly about !eurographicnovels@lemm.ee

@clark@midwest.social has been killing it on !truecomics@midwest.social

Thanks but lately you and other subscribers have been posting a lot too!

DBZer0, aka Divide By Zer0. He runs an instance with the same name. He's one of the old mods on r/piracy and helped lead an exodus over to Lemmy

Awww, thanks. It stands for "Divided by Zer0" btw ;)

TIL what the "DB" stands for, I thought it was for "database" lol

Yea, I did, too. I thought there was some kind of joke about not having a database.

@The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world has been a constant presence who seemingly posts at all hours of the day, probably the biggest Lemmy "celebrity" that I can think of.

<3

Also appears to be a genuinely witty, standup dude.

Yes, and unlike many high volume posters (from the other place), they're actually really active in the comments sections too!

Had a nice little back-and-forth with them recently about types of tea. Very pleasant person.

I would assume hot earl gray tea came up in that conversation somewhere?

I've had this saved for a while and was trying to think of a good time to use it

They post so much I thought it was a community for a while and not a singular person posting

I just realized right now that it was a user and not a community lol

academy award nominee "Margot Robbie" of course!

Ugh.

You're gonna feel pretty silly when it's really her and she dates us all.

I'm prepared to feel silly and date Margot Robbie

you think she'll actually date the non-believers? pfft that's not how faith works

Hey, thats just how Academy Award winner Margot Robbie be.

The secret to my immense wealth was simply forwarding an e-mail from Bill Gates to 10 of my friends, quite a few years ago now. I guess most people didn't think it was real, but as soon as I sent the 10th, Bill got in touch, and the rest is history.

I would feel pretty silly in that circumstance, true.

I hear academy award nominated actress margot robbie is here sometimes.

Not real, isn't it?

According to them, it's really the academy award nominee Margot Robbie. She hasn't provided any convincing proof. I still believe her tho because I usually like girls of color, but Margot Robbie is my one white girl celebrity crush 😍

It's pretty clear it's tongue in cheek but as far as I know they keep the bit up.

She’s never confirmed or denied anything… which sounds exactly like something Margot Robbie would do.

Well, just as long as we don't end up stuck with george clooney.....the smug bastard.

I see a lot of posts from @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world.

They post good memes, insightful comments, moderates a few communities I think.

probably not a real squid though, I don't think they got internet in the ocean

probably not a real squid though

I am currently visiting some friends I've been talking to on a forum for years but have never met. We've all been really close despite that. It's sort of a three-day forum party and it's been amazing.

Why do I bring this up?

I needed a shirt to wear for the first day so I didn't have to keep telling people who I was and I found the perfect shirt. (Excuse the crease, I took the picture the day after.)

Edit: are the downvoters disillusioned by the revelation of my false endoskeleton?

I just played a metroidvania called death's door, and in one section you go to a restaurant where the cook is a squid puppeting a dead guy as a disguise. Thought you'd be interested

How are the clarinet lessons going these days?

Fun fact: Squidward Tentacles isn't a squid. He's meant to be an octopus.

I have seen their name a lot, and though I think I share similar opinions with them on a lot of things, I find they tend to be more condescending and insulting for my particular preference.

he also has a habit of replying to people without fully reading what they've written, creating long chains where he blames everyone else for his failings. it's ugly.

6 more...

He also uses the fact that he is a mod to bully people. He just holds it over the conversation at times to force it to go the way he wants.

6 more...

Checks community's modlist

I've seen them a lot as well, but personally in my interactions, I've found them to be abrasive, narrow minded, and eager to take things personally. Lowkey don't mind that, it's not the internet if everyone is some polite bland npc.

But add mod powers for many communities and...

I've seen them goad people into arguments and then smugly mute them and tell them they need a timeout lmao

Or arbitrarily ban them all together. My favorite is still baning for tos violation then leaving said violation up

No love for @SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world ? They're not always the best troll, but man are they prodigious.

Putting their comments aside, I think it's really impressive how they came up with the perfect four word combination to blue-screen my brain every time.

Perhaps it's just that their username is unforgettable, so you notice it when it appears. Definite Rimjob Steve territory.

One of the only names in this thread I recognize

An autographed headshot will run you $20

Either you‘re way less popular than you think of or a medical marvel you can still type after at least one headshot.

There are some infamous ones for the amount of misinformation they post.

It's funny to see you comment here because I was literally coming to this thread to mention that I see you in seemingly every comment chain and thus consider you "Lemmy-famous."

Some even under this very post…

Does SMCF post misinformation? I honestly don't know.

Everything I post is false.

I would say no. SMCF seems more prone to battle misinformation. I was referring to someone else that commented to this post.

Is that the actual actress? If so, how the fuck did she wind up here?

It's obviously the real actress. Who else would it be? Do you think someone on the internet would just pick that name to use if it isn't theirs?

This is one of my favorite reaction images of all time. Remember when they were called reaction images?

I used to have carefully organized folders so I could accurately represent my face when.

She's a top NSA spy. Learnt the ropes while shooting the Barbie movie, which was actually a front for a vast police operation to capture the hobbits. Apparently, they live in Barbieland.

The account doesn't really act like someone pretending to be an actor, and whoever runs it was mainly posting during the SAG strike when she would have had more free time. So I want to believe it's her, because she replied to one of my posts and that was pretty cool.

She responded to me a few times. Mostly because I was messing with her. I don't think it's really her. But she's a good sport about the whole thing.

Flying squid

but not in a good way.

Until this thread, I didnt realize so many Lemmy users had an issue with Flying Squid. Perhaps its because I tend to agree with a lot of his takes, but I just find him abrasive at worst. Like...unafraid to not sugarcoat an uncomfortable truth.

Dudes definitely everywhere though.

I've gotten into it with them at least once and seen some other questionable takes from them but nothing to a grudge over. They're just opinionated. It's fine. People take shit on the internet too seriously.

FlyingSquid believes that your internet browsing history should be made public if you are running for any political position. Worst take of all time.

https://lemmy.world/comment/10928568

Rumors of my only having good opinions about everything that everyone should agree with have been greatly exaggerated.

But if I have offended you by being wrong about something, I apologize.

Not offended, more just dumbfounded that someone could honestly not see how that is obviously a terrible idea.

See above, re me not always having good opinions about everything.

I cannot help being severely flawed. It comes with the whole homo sapiens thing.

But good for you not having any opinions most people in a certain community you're in disagree with. That must be very nice for you.

So what you are saying (through an incredibly thick layer of condescension) is that you know your belief is wrong. And instead of changing your belief, you would rather maintain it, knowing it is wrong. That's just bizarre.

You never asked me if I changed my belief. You decided I still hold it when you said, and I quote:

FlyingSquid believes that your internet browsing history should be made public if you are running for any political position. Worst take of all time.

https://lemmy.world/comment/10928568

Then again, I'm not the Flying Squid expert here.

Fuck that guy.

Seems like he's gotten a little better lately.

Its going to sound silly, but I can't get past how confident he is and how quickly he posts. Noone makes good arguments with that little thought. At least thats my current theory on why he bothers me.

Who knows though maybe I'm projecting.

I also get annoyed at lightning fast responses. And I agree 100%

It takes no time or energy to come up with one answer to a question. I'm fact, I think most humans' brains are built for snap decisions like that.

But to weigh multiple answers against each other, poking holes in the answers you are most inclined to believe? That takes thought. And if someone is not doing that for you, then odds are, their brain is simply letting them take the discussion less seriously than your brain (or your morality) allows.

So I think you have every right to feel frustrated at such behavior.

Special shoutout to @ickplant@lemmy.world who's on point with the opossum memes.

@Stamets@lemmy.world is quite famous in the Lemmy Startrek Lore, but less active lately probably due to big real-life changes happening, I wish them well.

The big changes are mostly just that I work new hours which are weird for lemmy posting. I've been trying to find a way to get back into it more easily. I do miss posting so much :(

Can't say it's not weird as shit though to think that that I'm even slightly "famous"

And I do appreciate it <3 genuinely

it's probably best not to force it. Early in the Reddit migration, frequent posting kept people coming back, but you don't want to turn it into "your" communities. Shifting to quality over quantity is never a bad move either :)

No problem and glad to hear you're still around! You were there with the memes and shitposts when Lemmy needed it most, I think that deserves recognition. Keep taking things at a pace you feel comfortable with, your life comes first.

Tens of thousands of people know who you are. At least your online persona. And generally think good things about you!

2 more...

The user with an AI copyright notice on every one of their posts is one of my favorite "gimmicks".

Is it just one person? I tend to not read usernames. I just find that notice amusing as the only result it will have is that some ai-generated comments will one day start to have that notice in them as well.

I've seen at least a couple different users with that, but I wouldn't be able to recall their usernames offhand.

The notice really reminds me of the Facebook chain posts where people would post a declaration saying that facebook couldn't use your data/likeness if you share the post text.

If ai companies are unabashed about scraping and training on copywrited material from litigious companies like the nyt, I really don't get how anyone convinces themselves that anything they append to their comments would stop a scraper.

Yes I've seen them too. Utterly pointless lmao

that's @onlinepersona i believe although I dunno what instance is their home. They seem nice

Ada from Lemmy Blahaj Zone is quite infamous for the bad takes and arbitrary bans

Satan's Maggoty Cum Fart always gets a laugh from me

Ada is a strange one yeah. I remember them because instead of just generally deciding they didn't want to federate with lemmynsfw, she accused the admins of lemmynsfw of allowing CSAM when that turned out to be from a confirmed adult model that just happened to have a smaller body, and when she found that out she doubled down. That's such a weird take from a supposedly pro LGBTQ+ lemmy admin, considering that accepting of people of all shapes and sizes is a core tenet of being LGBTQ+.

One time I posted a meme on Blahaj in which someone named Obvious_Troll@hexbear.net was attacking a trans person. Ada sent me a message about it saying I was attacking a real trans person. There is no real trans person named Obvious_Troll. I made up that username for the meme. Ada defended a fictional transphobic troll, because they were from Hexbear.

I kinda get not starting shit with other instances (Although, Hexbear should be the last to be able to invoke that), and it is still her instance and her rules there. But yeah it would not make me happy to be part of a community under those rules. Being a safe space doesn't mean you have to shield bad actors from criticism. Especially if she's not going to be respectful to good actors. And it really is weird how she comes to some of her conclusions (How is a non-existing person trans, where did she learn this?) and then still wants the same response when that turns out to be wrong.

This comment thread reminded me of a problematic trans group that is mentioned in the "Being phobic is sus: weeding out transphobic Facebook groups" Facebook group occasionally because that behaviour seems really similar

I've forgotten the name of the group though and will edit my comment if I find the name again and haven't forgotten about this comment

Edit found it

The problematic group is the "Trans Education" group run by "Evey Winters" on Facebook

The posts describing that group are similar to the what the comments here describe

It might be egotistical but I was hoping I'd made a mark in Lemmy culture.

Not really because I'm not aiming to be famous on lemmy, that takes effort and I'd hate doing that

I'm just on lemmy to use it like any other social media

Well, not to brag, but today i sneezed so loud that a neighbour 2 houes down and across yelled "bless". So, yeah, kind of famous.

That would be 2√2 or √8 houses.

What am I missing here?

2 units (in this case houses) down and 2 across (a perhaps intentional misinterpretation of the original slightly ambiguous statement). Reasonable to assume down and across are perpendicular directions. Let's pretend space-time is Euclidean. How far away is the listener from the sneeze? Pythagoras, our faithful companion, guides our understanding...√(2²+2²)=√8=2√2

this is a european old city, so definitely a non-euclidian space.

I'm here. You're here. Let's you and me be the new celebrities.

FlyingSquid(I don't know on which instance he is, but you see him quite often).

Careful interacting with FlyingSquid. I refused to be drawn into an argument with them and was banned from World News which they moderate.

I've had good and bad interactions with them, so I just think "hey they are flawed (hopefully) human beings that have good days and bad days". Chances are if I treat them (or anyone) kindly, the interaction will be positive.

My goal online is to try and be a wholesome user, although that doesn't always happen. I usually delete my comments when I don't like how I acted with someone else as I want to remind myself to take a kinder approach to Lemmy. There's enough toxicity online.

All the star trek guys

I'm not a huge Star Trek person, but it really is one of the best communities here with some of the best people.

Start with Strange New Worlds. It's the best new Trek in 30 years. You can find it on the Bay or wherever you get your videos.

If you aren't hooked by the end of season 1, yeah it's probably not for you.

No start with "The Next Generation", or "Star Trek: The Original Series" if you like older shows

They are better, then move on to lower decks if you like comedy in a star trek setting then strange new worlds

I'd also recommend star trek prodigy, it can be watched as a family

Star trek picard season 1 and 3 are okay but depart from general star trek quality, season 2 is an absolute clusterfuck of awfulness that should be avoided and I have made my own headcannon that it was just another ones of q's games where they messed with reality creating an awful fever dream of reality and bullshitted about themself dying just to mess with picard again just to fix that godawful season in my mind
